How often are you all hearing from your TSM? - anon

I'm on a whole new team now and communication from the new abbreviation has literally been ZERO.
Curious ... is one email in a month, average for most TSMs?

I consider myself to be very lucky. My TSM emails us in the morning and in the evening each day to tell us about the backlog. She thanks us for the work we do and tells us how lucky she is to have us. If there are criticisms, she does them in a very professional way.
I used to have one like that too ... - anon

Until a month ago I was on another team, one I had been on forEVER. My TSM and QC both got promoted and the whole region got divided up and went to different regions. My old TSM was just like yours ... she sent a cheerful email every morning to let us know about the backlog, helpful tips, and to thank us for all our hard work. Since being on this new team, I've gone from a cheery email every morning to hearing absolutely nothing from my new TSM. I honestly never realized how nice it was to have *some* idea of how the work volumes are, and having that "good morning" note, until there was dead silence.
You are very lucky ... it's a small gesture but it's so nice to have when that's basically your only connection to another person from your company. I miss it.
Seriously? You know you can check the backlogs yourself - just saying

A cheery email? From someone who knows you only as a number and just puts out an email blast? Why do you need an email letting you know a backlog when you can check it yourself? Why do you need a good morning note? Are you not capable of working unsupervised?
It still amazes me that employees actually think that Mmodal or their supervisor cares about them or will miss them when they are gone. They don't and never will. Welcome to being a virtual employee of Mmodal. If you need a pat on the back or recognition then you are in the wrong place with the wrong company. However, the virtual part does have its advantages. Most of us relish being left alone to do our job without being hounded or sucked into office politics. I cannot count the number of times I got badgered into buying stuff that employee's kids were selling or putting money in a card for somebody's birthday. If you need a "connection" then there are Facebook MTs you can contact or ask your TSM to set up up with a mentor on your accounts. Otherwise just log in, do your shift, log out and go enjoy your family and your life, the real reason we all wanted to be virtual anyway.

I'm going to hope and pray that I never trade my ENJOYMENT of a human interaction and the small gestures of human connection for becoming an MT shell of an employee like you must be.
The difference between you and I is that you sound like you SHOULD be alone.
Holy are you needy - just saying

All this whining because your TSM does not send backlogs or send you an email that you do a good job? Why is your self-esteem so low that you need a faceless virtual supervisor to boost your ego?
Human interaction is what you should be doing with your family and friends, church groups, volunteering, etc. It is not pining over some small gesture of scraps and crumbs email from a company or a supervisor who would not even know if you died today.

Your self-worth should never be determined by other people, especially people you have never met. My life does not revolve around work or whether I get an email from my supervisor or not thanking me for a job well done. This is just a job for me, something to help pay the bills, but apparently for you it is much more, what I don't know, but I hope you find what you are looking for.

"Just saying" I could not agree with you more and very well said. It's almost as if I had written your comments myself. I have been with MModal for 10 years now and have been with numerous sets of TSMs and quality coaches over the 10 years and they all have had different styles on how they do their communications and updates, etc. Some would e-mail daily with backlogs and updates. The new supervisors that I just got changed to do not e-mail every morning with updates - but do at the end of the day when the backlog is very high. Otherwise, I hear from them about once a week. I do go in during the day and check myself on the backlog as I work evening shift, so like to know ahead of time what is on there work wise.
Wow....I thought I was lucky, not needy! - kcmt

Seriously! My self esteem is fine. I can absolutely check the backlog by myself. I do it routinely. I log in by myself, I edit my reports by myself...pretty well, I might add.
I chose to work remotely because I have a son with autism who needs me to be home when he is home from school. I do have a wide group of live and for real friends with whom I converse routinely.
I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how someone could take my "I am lucky" response and turn it into "I am incapable of doing anything and have now friends and low self esteem." Can someone help me here?
Here ... maybe this will help clear things up - samehere

All she said was she liked hearing from her boss, not that her life 'revolved' around it. Plus, how can you possibly glean any information about her, or her life, from one single little post on a transcription forum? I've always heard that what enrages you most about someone else, is really a reflection of what enrages you most about yourself.
You are just spewing with vicious nastiness. I would have all that evaluated by someone if I were you.

Yes, it is pretty funny. I'm just taking up for the person that started off this conversation. It seems like she got blasted for what she said. I get your point. I know this is petty compared to what some people are going through; however, this is supposed to be a place where you can voice your opinions about whatever you want regarding M*Modal.

I'm one of those recluses who can count her real friends on 3 fingers and really has little use for the outside world. My current TSM is a gem, just pure positivity. I know she updates/cheers us on when she isn't swamped by her other duties. I don't think the TSMs are just sitting around eating bonbons and watchin Oprah. When I don't hear from her in a while (even in a weekly blast e-mail), I become concerned just because I genuinely like her. If things were going wrong in my work, I'd be hearing about it I bet. I've had other TSMs that rarely communicated and I sometimes wondered if that was because they got burned somehow by being too friendly with the "staff."
However, I do understand that I'm beyond expendable at this point. I could literally die today and it would take The Company at least a week to figure out something was wrong. Sometimes I daydream of a world where there's a major pandemic going on and slowly but surely I'm the last MT standing. I log on and there's no work, no email, and I have the last laugh. Dark, I know, but this is Halloween ;D

I invested in a "good" or what I thought was a "good" pair of headphones a while back. However, lately I have been struggling with dictators. It seems like more and more of them have mumbling, stumbling speech making it EXTREMELY difficult to interpret.
In a "perfect" world, our job would be soooo much easier and not having to struggle with them mumbling, whispering, holding conversations (or at least attempting to) while dictating, and on and on.
Oh well, at least I have a j ...
Had eye exam today--getting new glasses. Can't wait to see better.
I also had a brief hearing test as well. Got set up for appointment with audiologist. It seems my left ear does not hear low tones and the right does not hear high tones. It is no wonder to me as all the years I have worn headphones, ear buds, or loud music. Keeping my fingers crossed. ...
...the business model works well for them. They made their money off you before you even signed on. They made it 1) when they landed your previous facility's contract and 2) when you were gullible enough to sign on to help voice wreck unemploy yourselves. Just wanted to share something with you. I have used it since August and amso pleased. I am very impressed with the quality of the headset I purchased from http://www.startsto p.com/transcript ion_accessories. asp#30585 (this is the site for the headset)This headset is wonderful for folks who have a problem hearing andunderstanding the spoken word. Help - Have no sound on right side of my headset listening to a tape in my Lanier. Headset works in Express Scribe, though. I will be purchasing hearing aids soon and have two related questions.
What type of headphones can I use, if at all, with:
In-ear hearing aids,
Behind-the-ear hearing aids.
Would also be nice to know where I can get same at a decent price. At this time I purchase my transcription gear at Martel Electronics.

I'm sick of testing and testing and never hearing anything or hearing back we're sorry, you don't meet our needs. I have 15 years of frickin experience. My QA scores are always between 99% to 100%. I'm starting to think it's easier for MT's with little to no experience to get a job these days than it is for a seasoned MT who actually knows what they're doing. I think the whole reas ...
I've been having trouble picking up the small words of ESLs lately, probably due to my age and the loud music in my younger days, but I was wondering if there is any hope for me? Anybody elsewhere experience that? I remember when I used to apply to someplace and I always heard at least invited to test or offered a position, now I can apply to at least 10 places and be very lucky even to hear from one of them. Anyone out there have any hearing loss? I have developed significant hearing loss. My ENT has encouraged me to keep transcribing, with the use of a boosted headset and I am trying. the MTs she interview over the phone state the only reason they are leaving there jobs in pursuit of a new one is because there is no work. She said that is not a valid reason and she would hesitate to hire me because I was yet another one to state that.

Dear Friends: I went to my ENT on Monday and they did a hearing test and found that I have significant hearing loss in my left ear and to make it compatible with my right ear, which has much less hearing loss, they recommended that I get hearing aids. My question to you is what recommendations do you have for headphones for over the ears, not in the ear, for people who wear hearing aids. Thanks so much. Sincerely,
