Suggestions for improved hearing??? - deafMT

Posted: May 15, 2014

I've been having trouble picking up the small words of ESLs lately, probably due to my age and the loud music in my younger days, but I was wondering if there is any hope for me? If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them. I've tried the high end headphones and ear buds, but the quality seems the same to me.  TIA

Bose Noise Canceling Headphones. Blocks out all other noise around you. Very expensive but worth it. I don't like headphones so only use them if I have a particularly tough dictator. I have hearing deficits as well from loud music and this is the only thing I have found that works.

I got noise cancelling headphones and not expensive ones. They were Phillips brand for about $30 at Radio Shack. So ditch those transcription-type headsets. Also, I found that slowing down the speed to where I could comfortably hear everything said helps immensely. I don't feel pressured to go fast and as a result, my line counts are just fine. My last audit of 400 lines was 100%, and my lph average is around 300.

Breakaway Audio Enhancer - I read about it here

and it has helped me tremendously. Free trial and then can still use after trial for free but can also purchase for $29.99. Much clearer sound and noise reduction without having to buy new headset. I use my old and tired MT headset and it works great.

Sony stereo headphones are great! - SickNTired

I've got the same problem and had tried all kinds, but the Sony stereo headphones work great! I even have to turn the volume down sometimes. :)

I finally got hearing aids - TXMT

Two years ago I had my hearing checked and had less than 40% hearing so I bought hearing aids. Ones in hearing office were $7000! My car was less than that. I researched online and bought a set for $1250. Still expensive, but a lot easier to do. At first I hated them. Thought everything in my house was way too noisy. But after a month, I adjusted. I use them only for work and when I go to church or am going to be in conversation settings. Don't need my headphones as loud and make a lot less errors in work.

I have hearing issues now from years of wearing headphones and playing with volume to hear bad files. I can't afford $7000 hearing aids either and am researching online. Would love to learn which aids you purchased.

I use a - Boostaroo amplifier

A lot of my dictators either whisper or sound like they're sitting 10 feet away when they dictate. It really helps in a lot of cases. :)

So, due to decreased pay constantly going down the spiral staircase, I could not pay my Charter internet DSL any longer.  I had to go to dial up because AT&T does not have DSL in my little spit of property.  IT IS A NIGHTMARE!!   I changed my schedule to graveyard so I would not be disconnected everytime someone calls me.  I don't have the money to pay for an extra line.  Charter wanted $89 a month for DSL only.   Of course, they wanted me to bund ...

401K Match Stinks. Needs To Be Improved.
Nov 19, 2013

Here is an article that talks about 401K. Mmodal's 401K plan stinks. "The most common 401(k) employer match is now dollar-for-dollar for the first 6% of income that an employee defers." Mmodal only matches 25% up to 4% which equals 1% in a lump sum which is even stingier than matching it each pay period to allow the participants to take advantage of compounding. The worst thing - We don't even know if Mmodal is going to match this year. In years past they sent out a letter res ...

Am I Losing My Hearing
Jun 17, 2013

I invested in a "good" or what I thought was a "good" pair of headphones a while back.  However, lately I have been struggling with dictators.  It seems like more and more of them have mumbling, stumbling speech making it EXTREMELY difficult to interpret.  In a "perfect" world, our job would be soooo much easier and not having to struggle with them mumbling, whispering, holding conversations (or at least attempting to) while dictating, and on and on. Oh well, at least I have a j ...

I also had a brief hearing test as well.  Got set up for appointment with audiologist.  It seems my left ear does not hear low tones and the right does not hear high tones.  It is no wonder to me as all the years I have worn headphones, ear buds, or loud music.  Keeping my fingers crossed.  ...

Hearing Aids And Earphones
