Paresthesia in both hands - Hemen

I am 44 and a medical transcriptionist. I started working as an MT at age 35 and since then has been doing this job. For the last one year I have been experiencing numbness and paresthesias in both hands and lots of trouble with neck stiffness and fasciculations in both shoulders. I type for 8-1/2 hours from Tuesday to Saturday.

I have concluded from this that onset of carpal tunnel starts when a person(male or female) is 40 or above 40 years of age.

Cant believe that I have never, in 35 years had any problems with wrists/hands in the form of carpal tunnel.

Is it the way people have their hands positioned? I do have an occasional twing in my arm/elbow and sometimes goes to the wrist, and when I try to do, like turn the key in the ignition in the car, I get a pain. But, a trip to the chiro and an adjust of the neck always takes care of the pain immediately. Have you tried anything like that?

I guess I should consider myself very, very lucky.

I dont have wrist problems so much as neck problems. In fact muscles in my upper back start to generate heat.

Carpal tunnel can occur in people of all ages. Over/excessive use of the wrists, especially in those who are typists/MTs, can cause carpal tunnel at any time. I have been an MT for 8-1/2 years and do have problems with numbness and tingling in my fingers and elbow pain that radiates to my wrists. Although, women and men over the age of 40 are more susceptible due to aging joints and bones. Besides from surgery, which I have heard from a close friend who had the carpal tunnel release procedure performed did not relieve her pain and actually left her with some diminished function of her hands and wrists, chiropractic and massage therapy is the best, plus the use of anti-inflammatories and heat/cold therapy. Some people have had relief with magnetic therapy with those bracelets as well.

Their website is a one-pager with not a whole lot of information but looks legit enough. Also, is Bayscribe easy to learn and utilize? Okay...I am new to the boards and have only worked with Hands On for 6 months but this is one of the better jobs I've ever had. I have always been paid on time, have steady work, receive constructive feedback which has helped to improve my skills. To date, the management team has been very helpful and friendly.
