Hands-On Transcription - any info
Posted: Dec 27, 2010
I found some old posts in the Archives but was wondering if anyone had any recent experience with this company.
Their website is a one-pager with not a whole lot of information but looks legit enough.
Also, is Bayscribe easy to learn and utilize? Will it interfere with any player I currently use for voice files? I have never used any kind of platform - always just digital voice files and Word.
Any information or input on either question is appreciated.
Thanks!

The owner is nasty - her goal is to keep you broke and earning pennies. Once you earn over $200 a week, they find a way to get rid of you.
What does a MTSO gain when they get rid of you for making - over $200 a week/
[ In Reply To ..]
They don't make money unless you make money. That kind of answer you gave doesn't make a bit of sense. If you only earned $200 a week, you probably weren't worth having around.
Agree. Couldnt be cost effective to have to interview/hire/train - new MT to replace a $200/wk MT. nm

Sometimes, it's simply about being spiteful - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Sometimes a small company becomes resentful and simply cannot stand to see an employee earn a good salary. BTW, I was earning WAAAAAY over $250 weekly. It's that simple. Call it what you want - that's the way it works at the MTSO in question. I'm not the only one that had to quit.
I really doubt MTSO has time or inclination to play - little games just for spite. NM

Think she would just fire someone claiming inadequte work - rather than play silly games. JMHO. NM

Oh, but when there are only 20 employees.... - anon

When there are only 20 employees, most earning peanuts, someone earning a good salary is going to stand out. The owner likes to "spread it around" and have MTs hopping from one dictator to the next - never time to build any consistency. Hop, hop, hop. Frick how it affects the MTs' livelihood.

Bayscribe? only $200/week? This sounds good for me, as I am experienced on Bayscribe and am currently looking for only a little bit of work to keep my hand in transcription while I work on starting my new business (I see the way this industry is going). So....if this is a good match, do you still think I should stay away? Am not signing on for aggravation and grief.
$200 a week - no problem - anon

When I left, they were still using Word - no platform (a couple of years back). You should earn $200 without a problem there.
Hands-On - Ortho Queen

This post cannot possibly be true. I have worked for Hands-On for years and have made a good weekly paycheck, sometimes close to $1,000 a week. Yes, it does get a little slow around the holidays because patients are not having surgeries or going for office visits, but the owner of Hands-On always tries to be fair in distributing the work. Working at Hands-On has allowed me so much more freedom than other MT companies. There is the normal 24-hour TAT, but as long as you get your work done in the time alloted, there is no problem. You always get the same doctors which also allows you to build auto-corrects and templates, making it all the easier to earn a nice paycheck. Sounds like sour grapes to me... maybe you just don't have the orthopedic background you claimed to have when hired on by Hands-On, as this is almost entirely an ortho account.
Don't know about Hands-On, but can tell you about Bayscribe - sm

In some ways, typing in Bayscribe is a little like typing in Word, except that Bayscribe doesn't have the bells and whistles that Word has (like no automatic numbering, auto indent, etc.)
Also, if you want to bold or underline something in Bayscribe, you have to use HTML. For example, if you want to type a heading "REVIEW OF SYSTEMS:" and it needs to be bolded, you'll have to type:
< B >REVIEW OF SYSTEMS:< /B >
(except without the spaces--I had to add those extra spaces so the HTML code would show up for you). And it's the same thing if you want to underline something, except you would use a "U" instead of the "B".
You can't use the "Tab" key for transcribing in Bayscribe, so if you need to indent something, you have to do it by using spaces...either one space or two spaces.
Using tables in Bayscribe is not easy though and is very confusing, so hopefully you won't have any reports where you need to add information into a table format.
But other than that, I didn't really have too much trouble learning Bayscribe or transcribing in it. The hardest part was that what you see on your screen in Bayscribe is NOT how the report will actually look. You have to go into the "Preview Report" feature in order to see how the report is actually going to look without all of the HTML code and spaces for indents, etc.
And lastly, I never had any trouble with the Bayscribe player interfering with any of the other programs that I use to play voice files.
Hope that helps a little bit.
Thanks! - Shadow

Thanks! I am experienced in using Bayscribe, have been using it at a different company. Didn't know that anybody else used it. But I did not use the Bayscribe player, just used Bayscribe for the typing of the report.
Great Company - clm

I have worked for Hands-On for over 2 years and have never had any problems. In fact, this company has been my best moneymaker by far. I have had several IC positions and this one has easily been the best I've had.
The pay is always on time. As for the owner, as long as you do what you were contracted to do, you will not have a problem. My toddler son was hospitalized and I ended up having to spend 2 weeks away without any kind of notice. Throughout the whole ordeal, she was there with well wishes and reassurance that I had a position to return to when I was ready.
Bayscribe is a VERY easy platform to learn and use. I use express scribe for other files and the player with bayscribe doesn't interfere at all.
As with any position, to each is own but honestly, this has been a great company to work for.

HANDS ON TRANSCRIPTION IS THE BEST Jun 21, 2012Have all of you gone crazy? I have worked for C and Hands On for more than 10 years, have always gotten paid, always had work every day just as promised, and love the flexibility of my job. It is obvious that those of you who were not doing your job, and therefore have too much time on your hands, because you can't find another job are posting this non sense. I know C has been in business for 30 years starting from scratch. Tell me....how does someone stay in business for that long in ...

Hands On Transcription Virgin Jun 21, 2012Okay...I am new to the boards and have only worked with Hands On for 6 months but this is one of the better jobs I've ever had. I have always been paid on time, have steady work, receive constructive feedback which has helped to improve my skills. To date, the management team has been very helpful and friendly. I don't want to disrespect my MT colleagues, but perhaps they couldn't "make the cut" or are burned out from the profession. It seems to me the same MT's are posting o ...

Hands On Transcription Any Recent Information? Jun 15, 2012I was recently asked to test by this company and most of the communication was done via email. I have over 30 years of experience and this is the first time that I have ever been asked by a company to download their softwiare in order to be able to test. I downloaded the software on Tuesday evening and spent until yesterday trying to figure out why I could not get the Bayscribe player to come up. Hands-On Feb 07, 2011I have worked for Hands-On for a few years now and I think it is a well run company. I recently had surgery for breast cancer, and the owner and manager were very compassionate and concerned for my well being. They are always available to help if I have a question. It is one of the best jobs I have had. You have to work hard, but after all it is a job and if you follow the "rules and regulations" regarding quality of work and turn around time you will get along just fine. You also transcrib ...

Paresthesia In Both Hands Oct 21, 2009Date: 10.21.09
I am 44 and a medical transcriptionist. I started working as an MT at age 35 and since then has been doing this job. For the last one year I have been experiencing numbness and paresthesias in both hands and lots of trouble with neck stiffness and fasciculations in both shoulders. I type for 8-1/2 hours from Tuesday to Saturday.
I have concluded from this that onset of carpal tunnel starts when a person(male or female) is 40 or above 40 years of age.

Fat Loss In Hands May 18, 2013Hello, this may be an unusual question, but I have been transcribing for about 3 months now, after completing 12 months at Career Step. I've been noticing over the last week that my hands are looking almost like skeleton hands. It's like the fat is disappearing and the bones are becoming more prominent. Also, the veins in my hands are becoming very, very vascular. They are about the diameter of a drinking straw.
