With straight typing, one space after a period or two? I haven't used two spaces since the old days of typewriters.
Am I getting a lower line count with using only one?
I've always had accounts tell me what they want. 1 space seems - what they want of late. NM

Just checked again with a longer report: 61 applicable periods (not counting in Dr., q.i.d., etc.), so 61 fewer spaces if only one instead of two spaces following, about one whole line lost = 1.2%. Equals between $150 to $250 a year for me.
You could always make a macro to put them back in if you can't get your fingers to do it.
Being that I'm on VR (EditScript), to be honest, the one-spacers really irritate me, because the drafts will occasionally start putting one space after numbers in lists when it's supposed to be two, etc.

[ In Reply To ..]This is a huge pet peeve of mine (well the first one, the second one is the people who like to leave an incomplete sentence by putting a period before the end of the quotation marks, but not ending the entire sentence with a period, but that is another story).
It has been and always will be 2 spaces. Two spaces defines the ending of one sentence and beginning of the next. The idiotic one space rule came about when fonts on printing material changed and someone took it upon themselves to try and change a grammar rule. Publishers didn't want to pay more to have an extra space so they decided to do one space.
IMHO one space is lazy and on top of that it does not look right. It makes the document looking like one big sentence. Heck, why even have periods at all. Let's just make everything one sentence.
Sorry, I'm not targeting this at you, I'm just answering the question with my opinion. Always has been and always will be 2 spaces. Otherwise it's just one big sentence.

[ In Reply To ..]single spacing is the preference as endorsed in BOS and has been for some number of years now. I didn't read anything rude in the post before yours; perhaps the writer edited it. The determination should be made first by client preference and secondarily by BOS rules. Many times MTSO's establish BOS rules as client preference. If you have a private account without preferences and do not follow BOS rules, you are free to make the determination personally.

In searching the web for a new job I keep running into federal and state stats that say the low end salary of a newbie transcriptionist is $14 and high end is $24. They must be talking American dollars because Indians make $0.78 an hour. I have worked for Hands-On for a few years now and I think it is a well run company. I recently had surgery for breast cancer, and the owner and manager were very compassionate and concerned for my well being. They are always available to help if I have a question. It is one of the best jobs I have had.
