Online Testing - MT49

Posted: Oct 22, 2012

Anyone ever test on one the MTTEST online testing sites, knew that you answered all of the questions correct on the multiple choice and fill in the blanks section, only to be told that you failed the test?  It would be one thing if you did not know the answers, but when you know the answers because it is general medical transcription knowledge that is dealt with on a day-to-day basis throughout your job, and be told the answers were wrong?  Something is wrong with this picture.

MT Test - Been There/Done That

I thought I was the only person this happened to. I have passed the grammar and vocabulary sections, but could not pass the transcription test a couple of times now. You would think companies would take into consideration if you know the terminology, you should not be docked on formatting. Go figure. They expect you to practically have a medical degree, but pay you janitor wages.

Grading - SloBrez

It seems that the test is superimposed over what they consider the correct manner in which to transcribe the report. A grade generates automatically from the overlay. Only hop is you get a recruiter who actually looks at the job. Funky, uh?

Same thing, yet one wants to see what is wrong. Too many discrepancies. - anon

First time I took one of the tests, it electronically generated that I did not pass and no information could be given. Now that these companies have merged and become bigger and more high tech, I asked that I be shown a copy of what my mistakes were. Who is checking it? Don't get yourself down as I did as I was glad to see that the mistakes were not mistakes and were really those of whomever was checking, SO they can eliminate you for other reasons, but then say you spelled disk with a C and not a K...when it doesn't matter, or if you put milligrams or mg. They know that each hospital has their account specifics and even though you go by the AAMT ruling, it still can be wrong if that specific account wants it their way. I once was told that there are mistakes in any report IF we want to pick it apart and find any. Surely nobody can believe the questions asked and the testing we go through for pennies and no benefits. Depression runs deep with this job and they surely want to put more dirt in our graves.

I too took several tests; the first time they said I did not pass by one point on the question part and they reset it so i could take it again. I could not believe for one point I had to take the entire test again, but I did. Passed it the second time only to take the typing test and fail. The quality of the files to transcribe were horrible. I was very upset after all of this but now I do not feel so bad after reading everyone else's comments. I have been doing transcription now for over 10 years and I know I am better than that!. There was an opening for Patient First and their test was very very similiar to the MT test just in case anyone was considering that.

I wish they paid janitor wages. Then I'd be making some - decent money. n/m

I've taken and passed a lot of transcription tests on MT Test. Make sure you are saving your work frequently, and each time you spell check or make a correction you need to save it again or your changes will not be there. After you finish, go back and listen to each report again and proofread. It has been my experience that most of them don't dock you on formatting and usually state that on the test site. You don't need a medical degree but you do need some education and work experience. If you think the tests are difficult, they are nothing compared to what you will encounter on the job. Janitors are paid pretty well, probably more than MTs these days.

I don't believe anybody said anything about the tests... - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
being "difficult". They actually said they felt they had passed the tests, but the test system "failed" them, but would not provide where they failed. Most of us are already in the field and we already know what to encounter on the job, and "suggesting" that if we cannot pass the tests, we should become "janitors" as they pay pretty well, is pretty condescending, I would say. Oh, and a lot of these tests are "timed" and do not always have the time to go back and listen again and again and again. You can fail a test that way, as well. and yes, they do "dock" you for formatting, if it is not following the BOS exactly (which changes every year). and they DO state that on the test site, as well.

Someone in this thread said that they thought the test sites expected you to have a medical degree, that indicates to me that they thought they were difficult.
I think she was being sarcastic....because they would - anon

not tell her where her mistakes were or how she failed the test.

Yes, I even looked everything up and was told - I did not pass, but

[ In Reply To ..]
was told to take classes at career path and then given the information. Sounds fishy to me.

I have been saying this for quite some time myself... - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I have "failed" several MTtests, but I have also passed several MTtests, as well. I am not sure if it is "random" or if it is "set" to evaluate at the prospective employer's requests. I do think it is "rigged" and will send you on to Career Step when "it" wants to. It can be a demoralizing experience and degrade what little self-esteem we have left. So, if I find a company who wants to test with MTtest, I tend to try to avoid it at all costs. It just isn't "honest" testing. But that has just been my experience.

RE: testing sites - MT46

[ In Reply To ..]
It is strange. I took two tests from the MTTEST test site, the multiple choice/fill in the blanks testing, for two different companies, same identical test, same questions. I passed one for one company and failed for the other company. The one I failed, I was then directed to a Career Step site to sign up for an MT course. I did a search on the company (the company that was testing is hiring on the other job seekers board). The company does not have a web page.

Fishy it is, and a rotten one. We would train inhouse - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
We were happy to get people who would sit for 8 hours. Anyone can be trained and now with spell check and the computer programs. It is just a way of weeding out, but in the meantime degrading and there is really no need for that. The work that comes back from overseas is horrible, but it doesn't matter because it is cheaper. So, what does the test really mean? Weeding method and meanwhile we feel like we are hopeless, helpless and worthless...but it is not so. Thanks for sharing your "put down" as it shows us we are not alone. Oh, you can retake the test in 3 or 6 months. Thanks, well my bills won't wait 3 months! Print out the test and send it to our senators or Mr. Romney. He cares about the 47%...well we are that, at least I am.

Jobs and training - me

[ In Reply To ..]
I would love only an 8-hour day. No, this is the problem, not everybody can be trained (or even willing, as just one QA note will send them reeling). As much as anybody would think, they cannot be trained no matter how easy the job/dictator is or the instructions are. The mistakes you see are what you get and can get worse. Spellcheck does not catch all or grammar/punctuation errors nor does it catch dictation errors and transcription that do not match at all. Even if you send the answers to the test, 99% will not even take time to open the document let alone review and implement instructions. A very sad reality no matter how much they are paid.

However, for those that do show skills in any form, trust me, your workload queue will never be empty, and the work will come to you first before others. You will also be able to obtain salary raises due to your skills. I just obtained raises on several accounts again by not only providing quality work but providing samples of substandard work performed by others, further demonstrating my skills.

Was that with Cognition Health Partners because - I failed it too and have taken

[ In Reply To ..]
at least 4 MTTEST tests in the past month and passed all 4 of them until this one. It may be that they are looking for a total 100%, and maybe I was only 98 or 99% who knows!!!

It's a lie - MT SLAVE

[ In Reply To ..]
They ALWAYS tell you that you failed and give you no score or no feedback. It is a bunch of bullshit. You have a degree in MT...you shouldn't even have to take a test. Those tests are the MTSO's way of participating in discrimatory hiring.

Discriminating based on what? - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't understand why you say they are discriminatory. They can't see you, they know very little or nothing about you so what exactly are they discriminating against?

There are some things that can cause you to fail the multiple choice/blanks portion. If you cap the words it marks them as wrong (unless it is the cap portion of the test).

I just took the M*Modal test on MTTest and it was ridiculously easy. The transcription portion was all typing and no ESL. There was no way to fail that thing.

How Difficult Is An Online MT School?

Anyone Know A Good Shorthand Online Course?
