I work for a small MT company that put me on a small account with 4 doctors, and I was told that I'd be the only MT. Within a week it was obvious someone else was taking all the work, and I was told that this other MT was only supposed to take jobs "when necessary." However, she takes all the jobs the second they show up. Despite watching like a hawk for 10 hours a day, I get maybe 35% of the dictations overall, and the whole time I know that this other MT has OTHER work she could be doing. She probably just wants this "easy" stuff on my account.

She hoards these jobs. For a long time she would take so many jobs she couldn't finish them, then after holding them for 3-4 days she would put them back out into the open queue. I had to bust my hinder to get them done because they were so late. A month ago I got chewed out by the OM who thought it was all my fault.

I told the OM what had really happened, which I now regret, because now this other MT will take all but 3 jobs and leave them behind for me. That started the second I told the OM what was going on, so I have a feeling it's a deliberate act on the other MT's part. At least before when I had to clean up her mess, I had more work to do.

I'm sure people will tell me to get another job, but HAHAHA there aren't any, especially for someone like me with less than 2 years' experience.

Can you go above your OM? That's messed up - or try to get another account?

Certainly can understand how frustrated you are, but how come this other person always gets to the jobs first? I would bring it up with your boss again and point out that you're not getting sufficient work and that this other MT is taking the jobs when it is not necessary. Although, I don't understand why the MTSO wouldn't see that already.

I've been trying to figure out just how they get there first, but since we get lists of all the patients seen I can easily compare and see there is a good 60% of patients I never type reports on.

I did ask the OM for another account and was denied. The OM doesn't care who gets the jobs as long as they're done.

That sounds like Alphamed. Except on the account I was on once they assigned you jobs nobody else could take them. But it was a small acct with maybe 4 dictators. I would have a patient list and would see lots of patient's names I never did a report on. So I knew someone else was getting the work. My OM was a witch with a 'B'. She didn't like me and I didn't like her. Glad I left that place. It was a joke of a job.

That sounds EXACTLY like my job, but it's not the same company! That's kind of depressing.

T....because I'm about fed up with what is going on there. I have been looking for another job. I have literally had jobs taken out of my queue that I was working on. We used to have a lot of work but now it is all gone and everyone is fighting over it.

This place doesn't start with a T... but the more I read on the various boards, the more I realize what I'm dealing with is kind of common. It just bites.

It is the companies who are creating this kind of environment. We're supposed to be on the same team, but most of the time, I feel like it is just a dog-eat-dog kind of world. How sad. I had an interview today and I am hopeful I will get the heck out of dodge.

always someone who figures out how to manipulate the systems. Unfortunately, that ember spread to a wildfire with the situation MTSOs put us in. I don't get it, it's highly unethical...but I understand it without condoning the actions.

I think I could really make good money on VR if I was the only one on my account or if it learned specifically to each person editing. Have you ever noticed than when a dictator tries to adopt a "conversational" style of dictating, that it is very hard to try and figure out what's being said? They start and stop several times so that you can't remember what the original line of dictation was, plus they add "you know" every other sentence. I DON'T KNOW!!!!! For the hours I worked yesterday, I earned a total of $48!!! The breakdown was 60% ASR and 40% typing,and out of 3 jobs I get paid for typing, 2 of them were ASR jobs that I had to F11!!!! So, I got chewed out by QA because a doctor dictated a lab value INCORRECTLY! It was a genetic lab value, not your normal CMP, CBC or anything like that. He DICTATED the value and I TYPED the value. So my company is moving everyone from IC to employee on Jan 1. Pros: PTO days, insurance for FT, and they deal with taxes. Cons: I don't need their insurance.
