MT companies and ridiculous TATs - doctor was complaining

I had a very odd thing happen last night, a doctor was complaining about the quick turnaround on the reports!

Work has been very low at my company, which is the result of overhiring and having way too many MTs on the accounts, and my company does this purposely in order to get really quick (as in immediate) TATs.

So, I'm transcribing reports last night as they trickle in, if I can grab them in time before another MT gets them, and one of the reports that I got was a consult. At both the beginning and end of the dictation, the doctor stated very emphatically, "This is NOT a stat report. I am NOT dictating this on the stat line, I am dictating this on the regular line, and I do NOT want this report back stat."

Unfortunately, even though it was NOT a stat report, he still got it back very quickly, like within minutes of him having dictated it. And after sending the transcribed report off, I was sitting there and wondering if this doc was going to be mad because he got his report back too quickly.

Maybe he thinks it's being handled as a stat and therefore charged as a stat?

No, they don't charge extra for stats - same as regular

They just have a different line to dictate their stat reports on, so in the event that there's a backlog, the stat reports will get done quicker. But, there hasn't been a backlog in over a year at this company due to the overhiring on the accounts.

So that's what made me wonder so much about this doctor complaining that he did NOT want this report to be done stat.

The company that took over my hospital charges extra for stats. They charge .25 a line for stats, their range is between .16 and .25 for all reports.

And I bet they don't pay their MTs extra for stats - just charge the hospital extra

This is so typical of doctors these days. They must be the most arrogant, obnoxious people to ever work for on this earth. Of course, they would complain if you typed the report in 5 languages. That is just the nature of the beast! They are rich to begin with, but so cheap and afraid they might get charged for something they didn't ask for but then threaten to take their business elsewhere if you don't do everything as they wish. And if their dictation was so bad that it took you 2 hours and 8 MTs to figure out what he/she was saying and you did not meet TAT you can bet there would be plenty of complaints about that. Suffice it to say you can't win no matter what.

One of the docs upset because many of us are leaving the word "and" out of one of his sentences so we got an email instructing us to make a note of this. Never mind that he dictates at the speed of light on a speakerphone, we need to be sure we get every single little word. My team is required to be signed into a conference in Spark when working our account. That is not a bad thing, in fact it is quite educational because I am seeing just how ridiculous everything is. The account is verbatim, you only type a heading if it is dictated. This is ridiculous. We are told that to get the measley 15 mins on our time for NJA to get ticket, send Email and put in Schedule Source timesheet alert to manager message.
