Medical Transcriptionist Week began May 20th to recognize MTs over a week. The theme this year: Patient Safety. MTs across the country are transcribing medical records and are dedicated to being a 1st-line defense against errors that can negatively and sometimes fatally affect you as a patient - physicians make mistakes. MTs ensure those errors do not end up in your Electronic Medical Record.
 
Healthcare consumers are you aware that local hospitals are outsourcing their work to what are known as Medical Transcription Service Organizations that are engaging in illegal behavior violating the Fair Labor Standards Act and paying out large sums in Department of Labor fines and private litigation/lawsuits?
 
MTs are part of the 99% and another category of people that are falling into poverty as a result of blatantly illegal behavior and incompetent leadership.
 
MTs take pride in producing your medical records and doing their part to ensure your safety and ask that you educate yourself on who is transcribing your medical records. Demand those companies stop engaging in illegal behavior that increases the 1% while decimating the poor/middle-classes. We are part of the 99% and ask for your help in turning this country around in whatever way you are able.
