I was making 8.5 for straight, and they were apparently charging clients up to 24 cpl. So the above listing of client rates doesn't mean anything to me in terms of what those proofreaders might actually be making themselves.
I also think the degree of expertise that the above requires is being underestimated. Most medical reports I've encountered don't even show an understanding of how compound sentences should be punctuated, while I'm sure the proofreaders through that company have to possess at least a BA degree level of knowledge of punctuation and grammar. Their work includes "suggestions" to their clients, not just simple proofreading correction.

I don't disagree that we're severely underpaid and becoming more and more so, but comparing the above proofreading to MT just seems really apples to oranges to me.
