Laptop USB ports - Rosepetal

For those who use a laptop, how many ports come with your puter and do you need a HUB head port for more than 4 integrated USB ports in the puter? I have a desktop and think it might just be on its way out. Any info would be appreciated. I have used H&P for decades. How are they for laptops? Thank you in advance.

...USB items you'll end up plugging in. I have a mouse, keyboard, pedal, headphones, external monitor, and iPod plugged in, so I opted for an external powered hub just to make sure I was covered. H&P laptops are great. There was a bad batch about 5 years ago where the graphics chip on the motherboard died, but they seem to have resolved the situation. The biggest concern you're going to have to think about is Operating System. So many things are just not compatible with Windows 8 or 8.1, much less the "new, improved" Windows 10. Find out from your tech department what your platform's requirements are.

I have 4, count 'em, 4 hubs daisy-chained from one of my laptop's 2 USB ports. Mouse, keyboard, printer, foot pedal, 5 external hard drives, and a few ports free for intermittent odds and ends such as the camera, the phone, the tablet, the not-an-ipod MP3 player, the occasional flash drive for copying off files, and whatever else I can't think of at the moment.

So yeah, you can get a LOT of USB usage out of whatever the factory saw fit to provide. :D

Okay, I should have checked all this out before I bought a new computer, I know. But I didn't and now I am paying for it. The cheapo one I am using is really noisy and hard on my fingers. I have to pound the keys. I would be able to plug my headset, mouse, foot pedal and keyboard all up to it at the same time? Or do they make adapters for USB ports?
