laptop or desktop - justme

Posted: Dec 31, 2009

I am considering getting a new computer in the next few months.   Trying to decide between laptop and desktop?  Can you really make speed on the laptop keyboard?  Opinions?  TIA

I type better on the laptop - tired

keyboard than a standard one, but I have small fingers/hands. When I go back to typing on a regular keyboard now I am much slower and make more mistakes.

Plus, I love working on a laptop because I am not chained to a desk and can move around (and even travel) if I want.

But, that's just me.

I prefer desktop - Longfinger

I feel like my fingers are too hunched over and close together on a laptop. I am forever hitting more than one key at a time. It's great to have for travel, but for working at home in the office I prefer the nice big desktop.

desktop. I cannot speed on a laptop, the keyboard is too flat...nm - comp

Typing on a laptop - MT55

I have a USB keyboard (full size) which I use when typing on my laptop. Works just fine and not that expensive.

You mean plug a 2nd, USB-type keyboard right into the laptop? - Longfinger

I never thought of that!

Good idea, I'm going to try it.

full sized keyboards for a laptop - MT55

I use a Logitech keyboard and mouse both plug into USB ports on the side of my laptop and if more USB space is needed, you can buy a USB hub (mine is one with 4 extra USB ports -- that just plugs into one of the USB ports, but provides extra USB slots if necessary). HTH
I do use a plug-in mouse (hate that finger pad) - Longfinger

And I have a USB hub for my desktop for extra ports .. just never thought about an "outside" keyboard for the laptop.

Seems so logical, doesn't it? lol thanks again for the idea :)

I use a wireless mouse and keyboard with mine, - works fine. NM

Desktop Icon & Internet Explorer Problems
Dec 30, 2011

Have any of you had this problem? (1)  Most days, when I first start my PC, the desktop icons won't appear.  I'll get the background screensaver picture, but nothing to click on.  Is there a certain combination of keys you can hit to make the icons appear?  Or to open Explorer?  Currently the only way I can deal with this is to shut down the PC and then restart it.  Sometimes it takes as many as 4 or 5 tries before the icons will finally appear. Okay, I should have checked all this out before I bought a new computer, I know.  But I didn't and now I am paying for it.
