I left 3 years ago - MTtotaxidermist

Posted: Jan 11, 2012

I lost my last account to India 3 years ago and decided it just wasn't worth it any longer after 20 years of all this crap. I have only returned to this board today after 3 years and the complaints are all just the same as they were 3 years ago - some of the same companies (they will never change), some new companies that are probably old companies that changed their name because they could no longer get people to apply for their positions. For all of you who complain and do not do anything to change the outsourcing or your own plight, I feel sorry for you. Find something that you really love, take charge of your own life and let the companies suffer. The outsourcing isn't going to get any better, so either suck it up or find something else to do. I make 4 times as much money as a taxidermist than I ever did working as a full-time transcriptionist and I have no one but myself to answer to. The animals don't talk and if I decide to take a vacation, the customers can leave their animals in the walk-in freezer and fill out a short form - I'll get to it when I'm through enjoying my vacation. It really is a WONDERFUL LIFE. If you love what you are doing it isn't like real work.

Okay I have to ask... - sm

How the heck did you get into taxidermy after being an MT for so many years? I know I certainly don't have the stomach for such a job. This is also why I couldn't become a nurse, not interested in touching people, or in your case animals. Anyway, congratulations on your success as a taxidermist!

Yeah! I was thinking that same thing. And I also couldn't be a nurse. - SM

I'm so glad to see someone else saying "not interested in touching people" because that is exactly how I put it. I always talk about getting out of MT and everyone always says "why don't you go into nursing?" And when I say, "I don't like touching people" they look at me like I'm a mental patient. LOL

Want to do something different too. - JW

MTtotaxi: I agree with you. If I have to work for another company, it will only be until I can get into doing something else. I would like to have a chance to work in the local hospital here in the small city where I live. Have never done acute care etc. and want to give it a try. I have worked in this for 30 years, mostly orthopedics, and want it somewhat my own way, spoiled I guess, but very tired of being treated disrespectfully when I try to give them my best.

Maybe they want your best their way, not your way. - nm

That wasn't a very nice comment. I'm sure if she has worked that many years they can't be too dissatisfied. Every company and employer have to have someone to kick around, perhaps it just happens to be this person at this place of employment. Doctor's offices are terribly competitive and difficult to work in. Especially if anyone is sleeping with the doctor.

Well, I'm all for empowering oneself, but I dare say that not just everyone can begin again in this economic climate. Sometimes, they are the bread winners, and, on top of that, parents. It is much more complicated than your assessment, which you gladly offer after 3 years of being away. The complaints on this board used to bother me too, but we MTs typically work remotely, alone. It is important to share frustrations with others; it cuts the stress in one-half.

I used to be like you, offering my opinion when not asked. LOL

"I used to be like you, offering my opinion when not asked. LOL"

She came here to share her story. Must it be "solicited?" WHO ASKED YOU to share your opinion? This is a message board, and posters can post freely here.

Your post is one of the reasons it embarasses me to be an MT sometimes.

I did think that after I typed it, that I was also sharing my opinion. However, my post did not include advice from someone not even in the MT industry, and it contained some compassion.

If my post embarrases you in a cyber community, you may need some psychiatric treatment. LOL You embarrass yourself.
So what? - MT

"However, my post did not include advice from someone not even in the MT industry, and it contained some compassion."

Your first "point" is moot (she's a former MT; who are you, the content police?), the second debatable.

Your IQ is too low for me to waste my time with further interactions.

This is what the poster who is "embarrased" about...when people call other people names or downgrade them (my IQ). If this were a board of males, I doubt this would happen. They are not nearly as hateful and catty.

Don't you worry about my IQ. I probably have x4 the education you do. LMAO
to quote you 'this is a message board and posters can post freely'' - that most certainly does include opinions.

Um, what this board about is offering opinions. If you don't like a particular post, move on. Nobody appointed you to be the Grand Solicitor General of Comments.

Just lucky to not work in the office - JW

[ In Reply To ..]
I was very lucky in that I got to work at home and sort of stayed out of the office politics. How did you know someone was sleeping with one of the doctors. LOL!! You must be psychic. How funny. I was lucky to sort of stay away from that but she worked her way to the office manager and did not get along with anyone there.

MTtotaxi - there is a market for this? ick. Not to what you do - but to people who have these on display. NM

I live in Colorado and there are a lot of taxidermists here. I really appreciate it because it allows me to see wildlife up close. I love seeing eagles, bears, mountain goats, bighorn sheep etc.in the various visitor centers.

You go girl :) - Happy MT (for now)

[ In Reply To ..]
I totally understand why you left the field; there are too many companies who would outsource their souls to India to save money. I happen to work for one of the few who don't, and am happy for now.

I used to work at a funeral home, and would go back if I had to. I'm glad you are happy with another career outside of the field.

I do believe you mean offshoring. I have to wonder when - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
MTs are going to learn there is a difference between outsourcing (so we can work at home) and offshoring (sending work overseas for a much cheaper rate). It gets my goat.

Mine, too. For as big an issue as this is, you would - think they would learn the difference. nm

Not true - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Oursourcing can also refer to offshoring. You can outsource to some company within your own country or to a company in another country. They are not mutually exclusive.

But to differentiate the two, offshoring is the term used for - work sent outside the USA. nm

My Heart Goes Out To You All-left MQ 4 Years Ago After
Apr 04, 2013

18 years and have NEVER looked back when they got bought out by CBay-that was it for me.  I knew then that nothing good would come of working for an Indian-owned company.  I even turned down an admin job when my company was bought out by MQ-no way would I work for that disgusting establishment, so went on UE for a few months and didn't care!  Now I love my job and am treated like a real person!  It is greener elsewhere and you will be okay.  I know it is scary, but ...

I Left MT Finally After 10 Years
Nov 11, 2013

I struggled with leaving, I put so much into this and granted I got to stay home with my kids when they were small, but the worry about steady money was the price we paid. We filed for bankruptcy and almost lost our house. Thankfully, we got a loan mod which reduced our mtg down from 1700 to 1400. I finally applied on Craigslist to part-time law firm positions and got one for 3 days a week next town over making $15 an hour. I bring home after taxes $300 a week and have 4 days to spend on my ...

I Left MQ 6 Weeks Ago. After 9 Years, I Was Terrified
Apr 01, 2010

to start somewhere new.  I tried 3 other companies in the past, part time while continue to work at MQ, and left each one because the software was so much better at MQ.  Finally, I got sick of the crap and threats and new accounts, and I left.  The day I left I was dancing around my house all day long, so relieved to be rid of them.  Now, I make less than my base at MQ, but I have no ASR, so it's actually more.  The software is not as good, but that is a minor ...

a hospital job after being a model employee for 5 years because of outsourcing.  Disillusioned, I decided I was done and took a job as a unit secretary at a hospital "in the city."  Pay was the same and I thought it would be a nice change, you know a little daily human interaction.  WRONG!  After dealing with nonstop ringing phones, call lights, pesky patients and family, hateful nurses, and condescending doctors on a daily basis, I was ready to run back to my home office for ...

After Years And Years Of Being IC, Obtained Employee Status At A Co. Sm
Nov 26, 2012

Thought that after not having enough work for a couple years now and always chasing work, I'd now have a "real job" as an employee and wouldn't have to worry about a steady paycheck and paying the bills anymore. The reason I thought this was because at the interview and in their professional company emails, they use all the "real job" words:  Shift, scheduled hours, overtime, PTO, benefits, etc.  I felt relieved to finally have a "job." What a big bunch of BS! I was "hired" ...

3 Years. Question: How Many More Years Do You Plan To Be An MT/editor?
Dec 20, 2013

There is much speculation about the field of transcription - how many of us actually plan to be here 5 years, 10 years, 20 years from now. I realize that the field is going to change, which will contribute to your answer. Will there be enough transcriptionists/editors to fill the need in 5 years and in 10 years? Will the industry be forced out of offshoring because of taxes? Will there be a need even for editors if VR gets better? These are all unanswered questions, but my question is, what ...

Working for Nuance has been horrible since the onset a year ago with immediate pay cut.  Since then it's been one thing and another to make an MT feel imprisoned working for this company.  With their 99% accuracy criteria OR ELSE - very few of us stand a chance of maintaining our jobs.  My job was threatened for not meeting consistent FIESA scores of 99%. Out Of A Job After 20 Years
Dec 18, 2014

After 20 years, I was put out of business by Nuance taking over the last hopsital I was working for and earning a decent living.  I eventually started working for Nuance in August of this year.  I had such a hard time turning in 1100 lines in 8 hours, significantly down from my average of 250 per hour, and not to mention getting stuck with two hopsitals in Maryland that were very, very difficult with the majority being ESLs.  Sadly, i was let go on December 5th because I could not ...

I am tier III and I still am not at top pay. Today I asked my CCM for a raise and she said she will put in the paperwork. Why do I feel I still will be denied even though I have met all the requirements. More than likely I will be denied because they do not want any MT to make above minimum wage. Also I really feel bad for the MTs who had their pay cut. That is just not right.
