What is a good HIPPA complaint email? Other than email, how do you send work to clients if not using an TASP? Thanks, Cathy

You can use Outlook - sm

maybe.... - it has to be "signed"

by both parties, and it has been my experience that the doctor's end will not sign. therefore you would require an encryption program, like Truecrypt, to establish an encryption container to send emails that are encrypted. I had to do this, much to my dismay. good luck!

Using Outlook is only HIPAA-compliant if BOTH parties are using encryption, and setting up encryption in Outlook is not a simple process. Getting a client office to do it would be quite a feat, I suspect.

There's a paid service called Enlocked which looks pretty decent, but again both parties have to sign up. It also has a limit on how many emails you can send per month before they start charging you.

The truth is, email is a terrible way to exchange ePHI. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who still use it to exchange ePHI, and every time they do it's a de facto HIPAA violation.

HIPAA Compliant?
Apr 23, 2014

From what I am hearing, if you have an XP computer, you are not HIPAA compliant. It violates regulatory requirements. Then why is MM not supplying us with Windows 7? My XP computer they gave me was freezing up, so they sent me another XP. I asked them why they didn't send me Windows 7 and they said XP was cheaper. So now as of April 8, they are not HIPAA compliant. I would like to know how they get around this,,,,,,having many accounts and still having many employees submitting reports u ...

HIPPA

I've just received a call from my supervisor advising me that because I cc'd the wrong physician on a report, that it is a HIPPA violation and I have been given a warning that if it happens again I am going to be fired.   I've been doing this job for 35 yrs and I have an excellent work history, ethic, etc.  I realize that HIPPA is very important and I "get it".  But if I lose my job over a lousy cc?   I'm devastated by this.  What has transc ...
