Could someone tell me what their hourly rate is for transcribing focus groups? I had someone ask me for an hourly rate today and I am not sure what to charge. TIA!
I charge by minute of dictation - buzyboyz

Don't know if this helps, but I charge $1.50 per minute of dictation for market research interviews between two people. These take me longer to transcribe than standard medical transcription; a one-hour interview can take up to four hours to transcribe and deliver the finished product.

I work for a company that pays by the audio hour. The going rate is between $75-$100 per audio hour. The above poster is right it usually takes 4 hours to complete one hour of dictation. Sometimes if it's a focus group with a lot of speakers it takes even longer.
Hey, does anyone have any experience transcribing focus groups/conferences? Anything where there are more than one speaker. Do companies pay differently for this, or is it the standard cpl as regular work? ...
My company just told me they were trying to bring on some projects where there would be multiple people speaking, like in a conference/meeting, about healthcare. They said they wanted me to transcribe it and to include time stamps every 5 minutes. How do you keep track of who is speaking? Sometimes trying to keep up with 1 mubbling doctor is hard enough, but now 5+ people? Is there some program or something I can get that will automatically put in timestamps, or am I going to have to keep lookin ...
Is it the same 10 cents per line as medical? I am out of work right now with over 2 years of experience. I have been checking out freelance websites, and the pay seems pretty low. It is sometimes described as dollar amount per audio hour or as an hourly rate. They list the hourly rate as about $5 an hour or less. Is it because the work would be easy? Should I bid for a job and offer 10 cents a line?
I need some work so badly I just don't know what ...
What would a good rate of pay be to do general transcription?
This is not medical transcription, but general audio like a phone conversation or meeting. ...
Ladies and gents, I am hoping to find an employer that will pay a flat line rate for both editing of SR and transcription. Does anyone know of anyone that is doing that? This business of being paid 2 different line rates makes it impossible to forecast earnings and is causing a huge headache for me. I am thinking a flat in the 7 cpl to 8 cpl would be something I would consider. I cannot believe I am saying that - 10 years ago I was working in a great hospital job making 12 cpl. My, my, how ...
I submitted my resume for an IC position and received an email requesting that I submit a proposal of what I expected to make per line for straight transcription and for VR. With 20 years as an MT, I felt that my proposal was pretty fair. I said 8.5 cpl for straight transcription and 5 cpl for VR.
I received an email from the company telling me that generally thye pay their ICs 7 cpl for straight typing and 3 cpl for VR and asked me to consider lowering my quote. I was fl ...
Hello all. I am a very experienced acute care MT, 13 yrs in the business, all specialties, ESLs, all work types, etc. I have been wanting to get out of the MTSOs for quite some time.
I was recently offered an in-office job at a radiology center for part front-office work and part radiology transcription. I was very clear to them that I had no specific training in either, but they actually hired me. I am tickled pink. I think my acute care experience helped in terms ...
What would be a fair rate for straight radiology transcription per report for a well-seasoned, part-time employee working every Friday and Saturday from 3P to 11P?
Thank you. ...
Can anyone tell me if line rate pay is comparable to getting paid by the audio minute? Is 0.50 or 1.00 normal? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks! ...
I have grave concerns regarding our profession. Many of you do as well. I am not normally one who dwells on this sort of thing, but I have seen our profession go from being able to support myself to a profession of hardly making it. I have had to drop my health insurance in order to pay rent and utilities. At my age, this is not a good thing at all. I have scaled back on everything. The only luxury I have is I rent 1 movie a week and then only very inexpensive ...

I would highly recommend the medical transcription community, as well as the physicians of the United States stay away from this company. I will not post any further info here. If you have a complaint against these people, PM me privately. ...
It is just getting worse and worse. I work Th - Fri, and there isn't even any work on Sat and Sun! I hate giving up my weekend for naught. Fri is the only day I have been getting work. My TSM never answers my emails or phone calls. I sent an email 2 weeks ago asking to be moved to a group with work. After all, MM is hiring. ...
I've got one coming up, and have no idea what type of things are going to be on it. The pay is good at this potential job, so I have a feeling the questions are going to be a bit beyond my scope. ...
Really???? Dictation by a particular doctor who drives my count into the toilet and always has really long reports came up at about the time I was going to take my dinner break. Of course it was long, so I decided it was too long to wait. I come back 45 minutes later, and I get the exact same job. Really??? I usually get many of his jobs because I work the night shift and so does he. But really???? ...
