I submitted my resume for an IC position and received an email requesting that I submit a proposal of what I expected to make per line for straight transcription and for VR. With 20 years as an MT, I felt that my proposal was pretty fair. I said 8.5 cpl for straight transcription and 5 cpl for VR.
I received an email from the company telling me that generally thye pay their ICs 7 cpl for straight typing and 3 cpl for VR and asked me to consider lowering my quote. I was flabbergasted! I really didn't think my expectations were unreasonable. I have received 9.5 cpl as an IC in the past and thought I was actually low balling.
After 20 years in this business, I refuse to work for 7 cpl/ 3 cpl. It's insulting! The email basically explained to me with the advances in technology and the push toward EMR, that MTs should expect that make less per line because they can produce more with the technology available to them. WHAT?!?! So my education and years of experience are not worthy of 8.5 cpl and I'm penalized for being for being too productive. This business has become utterly ridiculous!
