Consistent late payment of 60+ days by client - denimd7

Is anybody else suffering each month because their client is not paying for completed transcription services ? Or do i contract for the only client that does not pay? What do we do?

The only one who ever did that to me was DIT Transcription out of NC. They have been sued by numerous ex-transcriptionists. My only recommendation is to not give in and continue to type. Tell them that in good conscience you cannot do any more work until paid in full. Do NOT let the amount owed to you get too high.

Do you have penalties built into your contract? Do you have how many days they have to pay you?

There are a lot of variables. I have one private pay doctor who honestly forgets to pay me. He does not have office staff. His wife usually will print up my invoice and give it to him. But if it is Christmas, and the kids are home from college, and his work load is heavy, he may not get to his computer on his usual week night to be able to transfer the funds. If it goes to a second billing, I include the total of the 2 invoices together and send some sort of friendly note.

I have a surgery center that did some sort of fancing accounting and made a partial payment on an invoice, so I did the same for them. Had it gone to a third invoice, there would have been a phone call to the bookkeeper.

I don't know what method of delivery you have set up for returning the reports, but I use a password encryption. Should I be in your position, I would change the password and include a note that I will give them the password that would allow them to access their reports in exchange for catching up all outstanding debt. At that point, I would update the contract to include a significant late fee (say, $100 per 10 days over 30 days) on future invoicing. Or they may be placed on a pre-pay program and place a $500/month deposit with me before doing any more work.

Can you share a little more of your situation? A lot depends on how much is due, what kind of facility/doctor it is, how much the volume is, how much do you want to keep it.

I did work for an MTSO once with a bad reputation for paying its contractors and they only got once chance to pay me late. I think the point is, if it is a constant ongoing problem that you want to fix, you will have to be proactive to change it. If it is a longstanding problem, it is now habit, and that is hard to change.

they blame it on the transcriptionists. I get told that this must be the way the transcriptions are editing the output. Are there really that may bad/horrible transcriptionists in the company??? I don't believe there are that many poor transcriptions..... unless they are using ILP's to train the ASR.
