Just wanted to say goodbye to all of my MT cohorts and friends. After months of intensive job searching, perseverence, resume tweaking, tears, rejection and then skin thickening (ahem), and giving tons of thought about school versus job versus trying to hang onto transcription, I've landed a new job with a wonderful company. Get this, they have steady paychecks, benefits, and raises. I haven't had those in years. I feel like I'm walking on Cloud 9 and can't even sleep! Thanks to those who posted great job-seeking advice and encouragement on here (as I surely devoured all of it), and good luck to all of you with whatever pathway you choose!

I'm working for a large international company that is in the plasma business. I have an opportunity to train as a phlebotomist or tech or move into other areas. Right now I have two job titles, one as receptionist and one as an attendant. They have awesome benefits, and the starting pay was great for my local area.

Today was mostly paperwork and reading about the company, including the standard operating procedures. It was a long day, but everyone was super welcoming.

I did feel rather out of place, though, but I've been working from home for about 12 years and have been isolated, so I'm rusty. I'll be wearing scrubs to work (everyone does except for executives), which is strange for me, but I do like the idea of not having to worry about career clothing. When they asked my size, I told them "size chubby." hehe During the last few years, my pay decreased and my waistline increased!

Another new experience is that I'll be on my feet most of the day (except lunch and breaks), and that's going to take some adjusting to as my rear-end has been planted in a chair for a long time. I'm also much older than most of the employees, too.

Anyway, overall I'm very happy with the company and with my prospects.

Hello, I was interested in becoming a MT because I recently became a mom and would like to work from home. Can anyone tell me the best way to get started? Is there a class/ school you recommend? Or is there a book I can study and take a test to get certified? I am financially strapped so which would be the best for me? Has anyone found it incredibly hard to find a job outside the home after working as an IC for a long period of time. I apply everywhere and never get a call back. If you don't like those panels on the side of your text screen showing, you can drag the right and left margins of text screen to widen the text screen. You can also drag the upper and lower margins. I have a full time employee position wtih another company. Beginning Sept 3, I will start IC for 3 days out of the week for 3-4 hours. It pays 0.09 cpl with spaces using DocQscribe.
