Article in my paper today about MT course... - oldy

Posted: Feb 21, 2010

There's an article today in my hometown newspaper from an area community college about its MT course, about how MTs are needed for VR, how they make $34,000 a year, and how you can work at home.  I just wanted to puke.

Of course the goal is to get gullible people to sign up for their course, hoping they don't bother to research it too closely....

Yup, that is how they have been doing it for YEARS!....nm - Cyndiee

I've gone one better. The February/March issue of Working Mother magazine has an add for MT training that takes 4 months and can make up to $40,000 from home. True, it's possible but what they don't tell you is that most companies will not even hire if you took one of those at-home course, and chances are, you won't make that for a service unless you are a queen of text expansion.

34,000 is a very reasonable pay to put. It is not that hard to make that as long as work is availabl - Me

That income is reasonable with the right course - at home

I agree that it is reasonable! I took an at-home course. It took me 3 months total. I was employed from home within 2 weeks. That was 5 years ago. I only work 2 to 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, and make about $15,000 a year. I did not get any volume incentives, because I was part time. So, a full-time MT could easily make $34,000 to $40,000 a year from home, even early on. It took me 8 months to work up to my pay, but 8 months isn't long in the grand scheme of things, and I was getting paid the whole time. If you do an at-home course, you need to do a course with job connections. That is the absolute key, and it makes me mad when companies advertise those incomes and then throw their newbies to the wolves upon graduation.

I saw that article in the News & Record Sunday. Are you from Greensboro area? The article was not complete, only gave the "sweet" stuff. A very romantic view.

Yes I am. - oldy

Plus, I love how they didn't even mention offshoring.

M*Modal participates in the market where pricing has dropped by 35% below what M*Modal needs to sustain. Do Any Of You Use Sticky Paper To Print Chart Notes?
Jul 23, 2013

I am beginning to transcribe for a new local physician.  I've been an MT for 20 years, have had my own clients & have worked for the nationals - but I've never printed onto sticky paper.  The office manager gave me a whole pack of it.  It has 11 perforated sections from top to bottom, with about a 1-inch margin on right and left. Is there some sort of a template for Microsoft word that will print correctly onto each section? I don't see a name brand on the pac ...

MTSOs And "paper Checks" VENT
