EVERYONE on this forum should take note of this KEY excerpt from that piece:

"While it is important to remember that these numbers are averages from the survey, I still found this information pretty telling about what has happened in the medical transcription industry over the years. If you happen to be an MT with a spouse and four children, this average puts you below what our government considers poverty level!"

READ that again: BELOW POVERTY LEVEL! All the hot shots on here who INSIST that everyone who isn't making $33 per hour has something wrong with them can just STICK IT!! The above PROVES they are full of it.

Point #2: The author made this statement:

"In one meeting I attended last week, someone said they often hear that MTs are 'upset' with AHDI for focusing on advocating for healthcare documentation and not for the individual MT and they wondered why. I think these numbers just might answer some of that question."

With all due respect to KN, evidently even SHE does not understand the role of AHDI (formerly AAMT). AAMT/AHDI is -- and ALWAYS HAS BEEN -- a TRADE organization. They DO NOT represent MTs and never have. They represent the MT industry, i.e. COMPANIES. What they DID do, however, was walk that fine line and fool many MTs into believing that they WERE their advocates. How did they accomplish this sleight-of-hand trick? By opening up membership to individual MTs (cite ONE trade org that does that!), taking their membership dues, and including misleading articles in their monthly journals that convinced MTs that they were their advocates.

look at my post above. I wrote the RANT and it is long, and I pulled the numbers out of this article to show the pay DECREASES. so glad you posted this. no one outside our industry understands our situation, they think we just sit at home and type, what the he** could we have to complain about. thanks again.

If we are SO important to the care and safety of patients, then why has my pay been cut more than 50%--4 years ago it was 40% and then when bought by Nuance, it was cut again--not sure of the %.
