A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
Henry David Thoreau: "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation."
And I will hasten to add the word "women" to the above quote. I am one of those 'quiet desperation' people, as most of us are, until I personally faced an extreme economic situation with a utility company earlier this year. I had a personal $25,000, yes, $25,000 dollar, situation on my hands regarding a water company that "stacks the decks" by placing former long-term employees of said water company into the embodiment of state regulatory commissions regarding water utilitiies. I won.
You see, I am a medical transcriptionist, and have been for over 20 years. As all medical transcriptionists I am intelligent. I know how to search for information. I am detail oriented. I know how to write a concise, detail-oriented report. I also am, to a degree, familiar with the law.
My result of the above: After 2+ months I, because I am a medical transcriptionist with the above attributes, managed to not only turn a $25,000, yes $25,000 situation (bill) on my hands into a $553.00 credit, yes $553.00 (refund), but in the process somehow, because of what I had written, and voiced a very significant complaint about, caused over 200,000 people in my area, yes over 200,000 people, (captive people, as there is only one water utility in the area) to receive credits on thier accounts dating back to the year of 2005.
As intelligent people that is what we are capable of doing.
This is my tribute, and our tribute, to those that ultimately decided to take a stand, whatever that stand may be, to stand up, very intelligently and wisely, for themselves and ultimately for those leading lives of quite desperation as do most of us, whose lives will benefit in process.
It takes real courage, and it takes real guts.
