What's the word on Ascend - rumors about no pay true? - do tell!

Can't tell from the archives if only a couple people were having problems with not getting paid or if it was company-wide.  Nothing good in the archives though.  Anybody have anything to say about this company?  Just looking for truth before I apply.

I wouldn't doubt it. I had a terrible experience with them several years ago regarding payroll. I worked for almost 3 months, telling each of my supervisors/trainers I needed to be taught how to do invoicing . . . being put off each time. Meanwhile the amount of jobs I had done was piling up tremendously. By the time someone took the time to teach me how to do the invoicing, the company owed me several thousand dollars. When Jay Jaiswal received my first invoice, he hit the roof and I had to threaten him with legal action to get the money he owed me. He then turned around and sent out an email stating he had just fired me for falsifying my invoices!

Did you ever get your money? - They do seem cheesy....

Better believe I did! I threatened to sue him, and would have gone through with it. Gave him a deadline to get my money and poof! In the mailbox it suddenly appeared. . .

So they only hire IC and expect you to bill them? - sounds odd

If you're an IC you're SUPPOSED to be billing your clients. That's the nature of the beast. You should also be presenting THEM with a contract, not waiting on them to provide you with one.

If you're an IC, you're running a business and most certainly should be invoicing. (I realize very few do.)

From the looks of the archives and the responses today, its all about IC and invoicing, neither of which is mentioned in their very cryptic ad. I certainly wouldn't want to go to all the effort of testing for what I thought was employee status work only to be told eventually it was IC with complicated invoicing you had to be trained to submit a certain way. Big difference between employee status and IC - shame they can't communicate their needs more accurately.

I didn't have any problem DOING the invoicing, but they required it to be done on certain software, with which I was unfamiliar and had to be trained. Maybe they do hire employee status now; like I said this was several years ago so I can't swear that all they are hiring is ICs at this point.

I've been with this company for awhile now...and I absolutely love it here...always an abundance of work, very flexible and never had any problems with my pay whatsoever but then again I always turn in my invoices right away. I'm sure if I didn't do that, my pay would definitely be late. The key with this company is...lots of experience which I had coming in. If you have the experience, you'll be fine.

Having experience had nothing to do with my terrible experience with them. I had 15 years of experience when I started with them. And if you read my post, you would know the reason my invoice wasn't turned in "on time."

My reply was a general post to show others how Ascend has been for me at the present time. I don't doubt at all your terrible experience from years ago so please do not get offended as I really was NOT referring to you in the least. Though I wish I hadn't posted cause now I'm getting e-mails from India asking for work. Oh well - that's what I get for trying to be helpful.

I am a current TTS employee and I started out there as an IC MT.  I am continually amazed at the malicious gossip that is spread on this board about TTS.  Editors and QA personnel do not take work from the MTs, we're asked to step on to help out if there is a high backlog.  If we want to work after our hourly-rate-of-pay shift is over, we have to ask permission from the shift leads, just like anyone else.  There's no "double dip" going on, we work an hourl ...

Beware anyone thinking about working for Ascend!  They are extremely unorganized and chaotic.  I don't know why they make you submit invoices - which are very time consuming to prepare - when they will just pay you something different or not at all.  They shorted my first paycheck by 1/3.  When I was finally able to get in touch with someone, they did send me the adjustment.... but I have not received my last paycheck at all!!!  I have tried to contact them several ...

If you want to be paid for any work you do I would not advise working for this company.  I have not been paid for "phase I" of the transcribing we were supposed to do which was supposed to be paid last week, evidently there are others according to the main board.  This company hired for an account that was supposed to be started but evidently has not, they are feeding the MTs 10 reports at a time so you get a total of 30 reports in each phase as they call it for a stipend of 200, however, they ...

I think full-time MT/ME's with benefits are required to do 150 lines per hour or 1200 for an 8-hour shift, right?  Full-time without benefits and part-time need 100 lines per hour.
