Veteran MT - Worried - VetMT

Posted: May 13, 2011

I have recently returned to the national arena after having a HORRIBLE experience with an in-house transcriptionist position.  I have tested with several companies who used to have a good reputation on this board.  I have been offered 3 positions and I am at a loss as to what to do because it seems that there is not ONE of these companies that has a good reputation anymore.

Actually, there is not ONE company on this board that has a good reputation PERIOD.  I understand every MT has a different experiences with the individual companies and not everyone is a good fit for every company.

I would appreciate all positive/negative feedback on the following companies PLEASE so that I can make an informed decision as to my future:  Transcend, Keystrokes, Diskriter and Transtech.

Thanks in advance to all!!

I worked for TransTech but the amount of ESLs on VR precluded being able to - make any money, hence I quit

Their platform was nice and the people you have to deal with were nice. If it wasn't for the fact that there was no way I could afford to stay, I would have stayed. I liked the work, but have a family to feed on my own. Even staying at the line count of 1500 a day would not take care of my bills. I think if some of these MTSOs would face the fact that the work being done on these jobs is so time consuming and compensate for that fact, they would not be getting such a bad report from us MTs.

TransTech - stubby

I would highly recommend TransTech - I know some people are saying they are running out of work consistently, but I, for the most part, am able to work my full shift (2nd) without running out of work. The pay is pretty standard industry wide and always on time. They leave you alone to work; no IM, constant emails, etc., team meetings, etc. Just sign in and work - I like it!Tech support is not real "friendly", but that's not why they are there. The rest of the staff - SUPER. Don't know about the other companies you listed, but I personally love TT!

Thanks for the TT info it's much appreciated but .... - VETMT

I was wondering if anyone could give me any honest and thorough feedback on Keystrokes and Transcend. They both once had great reputations.

I would like to have current employees share their current experiences/feelings regarding workflow, communication, et cetera. I really need to make a decision by the end of today as both have offered me positions.

Any information would be helpful! Again, TIA.

Transcend - FL MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Transcend for the industry these days is one of the best. What I like if the flex time. 12 hour shift to get 8 hours done is great. I usually never run out of work, but I work second shift to third shift. The health benefits are not what they used to be, but the match for the 401 K is almost not heard of in other companies. The key for Transcend also is hopefully you get in a good region with good TLs and ROM.

tech support is very good and friendly - wl

Tech support very friendly and awesome just like every one else at TransTech.

Diskriter - CMT

I have been working for Diskriter part time since December. The account I am on is all straight typing. No speech recognition. Pay is always direct deposit into my bank account on time and pretty standard for the industry. I always have enough work, and there is often overtime. Sometimes they do run out during the week on 1st shift. I work 2nd shift Friday and Saturday. I am able to easily type 1800 lines in an 8 hour shift, and most of the time I type 2200-2300, so it works out to decent pay. The people I have dealt with have all been very friendly and easy to talk to. It seems like my supervisor is just about always available. I have talked to her on the phone several times, and she is very friendly and very reasonable. I have had to ask for several days off already since I work Fridays and Saturdays, and I have had no problem taking off when I need to as long as I ask ahead of time. I work the hours I agreed to, my QA score has been great, and I am not a complainer, so they are willing to work with me.

Good luck in whichever job you choose!

Keystrokes...so far - Laree

I have been working at TransTech for the past 3 years and have loved it there until recently the work has gotten sparse (overhiring?) and the pay has really gone downhill (approximately half what I used to make). I work third shift (5 pm to 1 am) in Radiology. Therefore, I just accepted a job at Keystrokes and am very excited about it. The HR Director couldn't be friendlier, and she seems to have put me on a very busy account that pays on a tiered scale based on report length, which sounds very fair. I know Keystrokes has been bashed recently, but I take that with a grain of salt and keep an open mind.

Tiered pay at KS? - KSMT3

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, I concur with your statement about the HR Director. Unfortunately that professionalism is NOT companywide.

To my knowledge all KS rad accounts are paid on a flat per-line basis or per report. There isn't a "tiered structure based on report length."

Tiered pay - Not that I know of

[ In Reply To ..]
I totally agree that the HR director is great.

There was talk of going to a tiered pay scale, but I thought that was dropped, at least that was stated in one of the e-mails by the owner. Many years ago they were going with a tiered scale and I really would have benefited by it and once again they decided to do away with it.

We are paid either by the line or report, some better than others.
I think by tiered she meant that some reports pay higher. - only on one account that I know of

You are correct - Laree
[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, that is what I meant by "tiered". I was told that 3-minute to 6-minute reports pay 2 x the report rate and that 6-minute and above length reports pay 3 x the report rate. Good deal to my thinking.

Tiered structure - Laree

Well, that's what the HR Director told me about this huge account in CA that I will be working on. I hope she is telling the truth, because I based my decision partly on that remark.

They've all got bad reps because the entire MT - industry has gone down the toilet.

No more MTSO's for me, because I don't like being in the proximity of turds.

Question To Veteran MTs
Apr 01, 2014

Has anyone with more than 30+ years of being a veteran MT ever been fired for typing or selecting the wrong DOS in any report? Has anyone worked with a QA editor that didn't have enough experience to know the BOS? I am in total shock and was wondering if I'm the only one that has experienced this in all my years of being an old timer MT. I am really tired of the way this profession has gone downhill fast and how we are treated by these owners. Am I the only one? Sad and very angry ...

2-3 Newbies To Replace 1 Veteran MT
Nov 02, 2010

Just read another interesting article in that it is estimated that it will take 2-3 newbie MTs to replace 1 veteran MT.  Something all these corporate MTSOs better start thinking about.  Once they run all the veteran MTs off, find demand is shifting back to onshore transcription, then what are they going to do.  Even if they pay newbies lets say a mere 6 cpl...that's 18 cpl if it takes 3 to replace 1 veteran, and the veteran makes probably 9 cpl (maybe 10) so it is costing th ...

Company That Works For Veteran's Ad Is On Downward Spiral
Jan 26, 2012

A company located in Georgia has set new standards for their new employees. They had recently restructured their company by laying off about 15 MT's. Then the newly hired IC's were given new work conditions. Full-time must produce close to 1,400 lines in 12-hours. Part-time must produce almost 700 lines in 12 hours. This is not going over well with either former long-time IC's or with newly hired IC's. This company apparently does not care how their IC's feel and w ...

Worried...RE: TTS
May 14, 2011

So, maybe I have set myself up to be worried.  I have read so much bad stuff about TTS.  I just started a job there and haven't had any trouble thus far, so I can't vouche for the complaints I have read.  Are there any other current TTS employees out there that enjoy working there?  I have never ran out of work.  I can't speak for getting paid on time yet because my first payday isn't until this weekend. So far, all I can say is good things. They wer ...

Worried
Jan 26, 2015

It seems like more transcription is being offered for in-house rather than IC at home jobs. Tonight I went online and put 'work at home medical transcription jobs' and after going through all the transcription school ads, I only found 2 companies hiring for at home work, the others were all in an office or hospital setting.  It seems as though the demand for going in-house is getting greater every day.  Because of my blind Schnauzer, I need to be at home for those times when ...
