Superior Global Solutions - Passed their tests - StunnedMT
Posted: Mar 15, 2011
Passed their tests. They wrote me a congratulatory email and a phone call that told me I passed. Told me I needed Word 2003 (do you know how HARD it is to get Word 2003 anymore?). Cost me $140.00 but I got it. Sent in computer specifications, passed. Gave former employer 5 days notice (SGS wouldn't hold my new job for 2 weeks, gave me only 5 days). Received paperwork in email in the morning. By 2 PM, received phone call, "we are withdrawing our job offer". When I could get my brain wrapped around what she said, I asked, "why?". "You're just not a good fit and we are withdrawing our job offer". Now, I'm $140 out of pocket and no job, and multiple phone calls and emails are being ignored. Just reporting the facts and what happened.
I have 19 years of acute care experience in all fields and most environments with a 99.4% quality rate. You decide.
********UPDATE********
WELL NOW!! I can report that the CEO called me after I wrote an e-mail of facts to him. He was very nice, offered to check into what there was available, offered to talk with the recruiters that "hired" me and get to the bottom of this whole thing. I politely told him that I wouldn't work for SGS now and that my old employer has graciously given me my old job back with no repercussions but that I still would like to know WHY this all happened in the first place. He said he would "update" me. We'll see.
Wow ... that's awful. I guess you have no recourse against the company nm - but seems a lousy way to do business.

Was just hired on there as an IC. Spent $130 on Word 2003 and went through all the training, etc. Now, 4 days have gone by of sitting in front of my computer and I haven't had one single report to type. Why did they even bother hiring me? Such a waste of money and time. So I know exactly how you feel.
But I wasn't hired as an IC. I was hired as an employee and told to give notice, which I did. - StunnedMT

Now I'm without a job at all and no insurance. I HAD a job before I was foolish enough to apply at SGS. Big, mistake, BIG.

I am so sorry this happened to you. Keep all of your paperwork. If this were me, I would see a lawyer. They made you an offer, you gave your acceptance and your relied on their representations--to your detriment. I would sue the h*** out of them. Is there any chance your former employer will take you back? I have never had much respect for SGS and now I have even less.
Thanks Nick. They certainly are NOT a respectable company, are they? - StunnedMT

I'm considering options but at this point, I still am dizzy from how and why this happened at all. Thanks for the advice tho. I just wanted to get it out here so no one else will fall prey to this company and be treated this badly and for no reason, none that I know of anyway, and they don't seem to want to tell me!
I'm in negotiations with my former employer. This career is SO volatile right now and so up in the air, they may have been glad to have one less paycheck to write, ya know?
This is an eye-opener for all of us, NOT to give notice - until weve actually worked at new place. nmsg

Look at the bright side--at least you did not get lured into the lion's den and have to tangle with crawling snakes.
I feel for you and it sure makes you feel like crap. Hang in there!
What goes around will come around and now when looking for a different job will not consider this company at all--thanks to your post!
You did a lot of us a big favor, my MT friend! God bless.

I was just hired with Superior Global 5 months ago. Everyone treated me with the utmost respect from recruiting, to management, QA and other coworkers. I would not be so fast to cast judgement on this company. Obviously there was a reason or "red flag" as to why the offer was rescinded. None of us will ever know the facts, all I can go on is my experience as an MT for SGS. I have referred 3 MTs already and will continue to refer to this top notch company!
Save that paperwork and apply for unemployment. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I know it may sound terrible to be out of a job, but I think you would qualify for unemployment in this case. Something similar happened to me in the past, and I qualified. I was hired to be full-time, but was supposed to start out as part-time for 6 weeks. Four months later, they still kept me at part-time, so I quit. They fought the unemployment, but I won because I kept all the documentation showing that I was supposed to be hired full-time.
You have the documentation that they hired you, and you did all that was required to be employable by their company, and then they let you go. If you have the employee paperwork, you were hired.
If you can't get your job back where you resigned from, I would definitely look into UEB. Also, with UEB your income should qualify you for any state-run insurance as well if you need it badly.
Turn their crap back onto them by applying for unemployment.

I also was asked by the owner if I knew 25 MTs who would like to join their company, and I was also thinking about it too, but not now. I am so glad you posted this. What happened to you is horrible, and a verbal agreement, especially a written agreement, is a binding contract. I would contact a lawyer and see what options you have. Companies like this should not be in business. You are now out money for purchasing something they required that you have, so at the least they should reimburse you for that expense. I wish you all the very best, and thanks for letting us know about this company.
Almost happened to me too - Anonymous

I applied there too, the recruiter has called twice and left messages and e-mailed once wanting to speak to me. I've held off returning her calls because I thought they might be questionable. If they need 25 people, something's definitely not right. Think I'll stay put after reading this, thanks for sharing.

So did you advise them they have to pay for the software? - ME
[ In Reply To ..]
But unless my quick googling is off, you can get Word 2003 for MUCH less than $140.
At least you got a somewhat responsive call from the CEO - that rarely happens. They probably realize they are on the legal hook here to some extent, or it could be poor management. Either way try to get some $ for the software even if it doesn't cover the full amount you spent.
The phone call surprised me too, and I did ask for reimbursement... sm - StunnedMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I googled Word 2003 also but did you actually go into any of those hits and try to GET it? I was burned twice with what I bought first. I got Word WORKS 2003 with advertised Word 2003 IN it, but it was a package deal that turned out to be Works Word. Big difference. You cannot get it from Microsoft anymore. And if you buy it from someone that has one, it's usually just the CD and the product key number that has been stolen from a machine that didn't need/use it. Trust me, I'm not a novice at computer product searching and $140 was a bargain for all the time I had already spent trying to get the right thing.
Well maybe - ME
[ In Reply To ..]
As I said my search was quick... that said I bought Word 2000 for $20, legitimate copy, a little while back. But that's not 2003 so u may have done as well as you could.
When they call you back to explain what happened, I would seriously consider asking very nicely for them to reimburse you for what was a nonrefundable purchase you made *after* accepting a job which required you to purchase said software. They may not pay you for it *and* allow you to keep it but if you don't ask you won't have any option.
Reimbursement - 15+ more/less
[ In Reply To ..]
I'd make them pay for it too. I got 2 or 3 copies (I have 3 computers I use for work) from eBay for less than $60 each. All were legal copies in original shrink wrap with their COA. All worked perfectly and registered correctly with Microsoft. If I have to replace a hard drive, I just call Microsoft to have the COA re-registered to a different computer.
I couldn't wait for eBay...they were pushing me to get it immediately. sm - StunnedMT
[ In Reply To ..]
Time was not on my side then. I checked eBay and the 2 that were on a "buy me now" status were the 2 that I got burned on. There went almost $50.00 right there by the time you tacked on shipping and handling. All of the auctioned ones were 24 to 48 hours and they wanted me to get my PC specs in. I found a site where I could download it and it was $90.00, but I had it immediately.
Same potty different toilet (SM) - Been there too
[ In Reply To ..]
I've been there and done almost that exact same drill, Stunned. Offered the job, ordered new computer and had 2003 installed, IT approved my computer specs, daily email communication, all was fine...I thought.
The day my computer arrived, I emailed K, the person who had hired me and with whom I had been dealing. No response. Sent another email and called the next day. No return to emails or call. After day #3 of this runaround, I accepted another position I had been offered and never looked back.
They recently sent me an email saying they were recruiting and offering a gift card, I think it was. I emailed back and told them I would NEVER recommend anyone to work from them after what I went through. I was offered lip service, etc., but then they came back and said they had no record of me even being in their system. HA. Okay, whatev...Not like I wanted to work for them ever again anyway.
A bunch of flakes if there ever was one, that's for sure. Aside from losing the $140, I suspect you're better off wherever you're at now rather than SGS.
The recruiter sounds 100% INCOMPETENT. - I hope the CEO fires her! (n/m)

SGS - StunnedMT - xMT

This is a horrible thing to happen to anyone and I am glad your employer was able to take you back. I had a different and rather bizarre experience with SGS. I was extended an offer for a different type of position - not MT/ME. The recruiter was to send me a link to take a final test. I never received the link. I emailed back several times, called her a few more times and then went on about my search. Out of the blue about a month later, I received an email from the same recruiter asking why I never completed the test. I explained that I had never received the link and was told I should have called her. I told her I did call several times, left messages each time and she never responded. She actually said that was not possible. I did, however, have all the emails I sent to her when I didn't get the link and my phone tracks all the calls I make, so...She sent me the link that day, I tested and passed. However - and I'm sure you all know where I'm going with this - the job was no longer available. I believe she then offered me one of the lowest paying editor jobs yet and when I expressed shock at the line rate, I was almost immediately told that job was not available either. Regarding the recruiter, I'm not sure she's actually incompetent, I don't think she has a clue about what being in the transcription industry means. I guess I would not term her incompetent but ignorant.
I have heard from the CEO today... sm - StunnedMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I heard from the CEO today. He tells me that he has only been the CEO for 1 year this month and all of these other seemingly related stories to mine are not the same situations. Okay.
He told me that he talked with the 2 recruiters that I dealt with and he felt there was a miscommunication because I had applied for a job at SGS 3 years ago and the 2 recruiters were reading 2 different files and not communicating with each other. Okay.
He offered a refund to me on the software that I had purchased specifically at their request.
He offered a position at SGS or if I ever decided to change jobs again, to call him directly.
He told me that the attitude of the recruiter towards me was completely out of character for her.
He told me that both recruiters were put on the hot seats and told that this should never happen again.
Those are the facts. I'm going back to my old employers, my fabulous managers, and the people that have loyalty to me. I'm ashamed to admit that I did not have the same loyalty to them and I can tell you right now, that's changed. I'm done with this. I'm going back to my real life. A happy one. Thanks everyone for your ears, your opinions and your support.
Actually the CEO acted properly - ME
[ In Reply To ..]
At the very least he did the right thing in explaining things to you and offering to reimburse you for the software - that doesn't change the fact you had this experience, but it counts for something.
He may take steps now to assure this doesn't happen again, so something good may come of it.
Good luck!

SUPERIOR GLOBAL SOLUTIONS Nov 14, 2009I worked about 3-4 weeks for SGS. The people were really really nice. The pay was on time. The problem lies with too many Q.A. people and all having different opinions and no one agreeing on the same thing. They nick-picked me to pieces. I had a job come up today and it was a STAT. I had no idea it was stat. I was in Q.A. being checked for everything, so I was doing my normal be careful speed and they said hurry it up.
