I am soo fed up with this company. I am an experienced MT and have been on their "crappy" training rate for three months. I get "dinged" in lab values if I add commas and the platelet count is 348,000 have to change everything to semicolons then if patelet count is just 38 commas are fine. I have done QA and NEVER dinged anyone for stuff like this. Of course, this wonderful company as well wants VERBATIM -- heaven forbid you add "a or the" to have something make sense. Another thing too, is their VR stinks -- they put docs on who have NO business being on VR, but of course like the rest of these companies, they dont care - almighty dollar is what is about and they are hiring for a new account right now which is typing, but cant understand any of the docs. My income since May and losing an account has gone from 50K down to about 15K with Focus. They are another Q -- India based and dont care

I had a doc the other day who was on VR (and quite frankly, had no business being on VR) I ended up with 7 points taken off because the idjit was on VR. I have had to move because of my MT situation -- Focus does not pay the bills either and NOT making what they promised because of their danged QA -- They are wonderful with "conference calls and getting people involved where they should not be involved." Team leads if you work second or third shift are not going to be available regardless of what they tell you. Forget family emergencies -- I had one last night out of state IMD the team lead and she got nasty with me today. I was having incoming phone calls but of course, my team lead was off by 7 pm and no other team lead available. I am soon to hit my mid 50s and have had a handicap from birth; this company as well is "all about production" and heaven forbid you dont do 400 lph an hour with speech and 200 lph typing. Never mind that it is their slow platform trying to find another report that may have a doc name in that you cant understand and you may spend 15 minutes looking it up or a PA that cant speak -- this company has ruined me -- I physically hurt more than I did and now, with what I was born with have a hard time walking. I am seriously looking into disability because of what these companies are NOW demanding of MTs -- there are those of us whom have been in this profession MANY years and trying to go into vr is physically demanding

[ In Reply To ..]Dont feel bad. I worked for them for about 3 weeks and it nearly drove me NUTS! Their QA is totally and unrelenting brutal. There is a go-to-meeting every time you turn around. The snotty lead is never there when you need her and the platform sucks because you have to check EVERYTHING and by the time you are done checking you have lost lines. I have been through hell with these people and I can emphathize with you.

I work for Focus and I agree the pay is terrible with VR because you have to fix too much on the reports. It takes just as long to edit a report as it does to just straight type it, but you get paid half. I have a great team lead. I've missed days and they say nothing to me. I don't even check my audit reports because every QA is different. The QC people will all give you a different answer, so why bother. Some are good and some are bad. I know what I'm doing and if I don't, I ask. The company I worked for before trained me well. I am looking elsewhere now as well, or maybe just another part-time position. Overall, they have been good to me and pretty flexible. They even provided me a computer, headphones, a pedal, Stedman's Spellcheck, and Quick Look Electronic Drug Reference......free.
I will say that, unfortunately, there are some really bad MTs working for them. When I pull up old reports to verify something, I see horrible mistakes throughout the entire report! Not just spelling and grammar, but format and medications. I'm shocked at the quality of work. I swear there are some people who actually just type exactly what the doctor says and don't bother to check anything. If I have a medication I've never heard of, no matter what, I check it!

[ In Reply To ..]They have some accounts that "follow the sun" and when the sun is in our part of the world we work on the account and when the sun is over on the Indian side of the world they work on the account. the account I was on was one of those.
A Word About QC - Tickled
[ In Reply To ..]I know you are frustrated, but I just wanted to chime in about the QC. The thing is, the QC get dinged, too, so that's why we have to edit the MT's document so much, seeming like we are nit-picking. If we don't do it, then we get the ding. Make sense? About the lab values, when I first started working there, this blew me away, too. It's like this - if there's a comma in the actual number (platelet value 38,000) then the values themselves are separated by commas (hemoglobin 12; hematocrit 40; platelets 38,000). If there is no comma in the platelet value, for example, then it's straight commas. I learned this the hard way as well, but by looking at my feedback and not making the same mistake again, my accuracy eventually improved. I think it's the same with any company, you have to roll with the punches and if you keep going, keep improving, the punching will stop. I'm now at 99.8% accuracy. I still get dinged on stuff I've never heard of, but I correct it and move on. I suspect that if I changed companies, it would be the same process over again. I just wanted to add, too, as a QC, I HIGHLY respect the MTs and the work they put in to each and every report. Just know that we go through the same things, and we aren't just correcting things for the heck of it.

I want to apply because they said there are new accounts etc. Then, I checked the archives and as early as December, people were claiming to running out of work every day because a lot of the work goes to India. They also were told that there would be new accounts but somehow they vanished and they ended up with no work.
