My Visa Gift Card Was Refused? - ncmt

I tried to use my giftcard today and it was refused. It was give by transcend, a visa giftcard, and it was refused when i tried to use it. I didn't see anything that came with it saying it had to be authorized or anything. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you have an authorization number i can call to authorize my card? Suggestions? Thanks

look at the back. It probably has a phone number where you can check your balance or authorize it if needed.

Also, did you try to pay for an amount larger than the gift card? Some of the Visa/MC/etc. cards can only be run for the amount on them. In other words, your purchase is $50, if the card is $25 have the cashier manually run it for $25 so it does not try to charge the whole $50. Most places will let you split the transaction. Then pay the rest after running the gift card.

I had heard a year or two back about gift cards not being a great gift because they hang out in the open at stores and thieves will take the code without the card and use it to shop online or whatever rendering the gift card useless. It prompted many companies to put their gift cards behind the counters, but I see some stores still have theirs out in the wide open. This could be a possibility?

The same thing happened to me and so I called the issuer...if your order comes to more than the gift card you have to pay with your other way (cash, debit card, another gift/credit card) first and then the Visa gift card. I tried to use it again and did it that way and it worked. Hope this helps.

My daughter's home was broken into just about a week before Christmas. She had many gift cards that were stolen. She was able to replace each and every one because she had kept the receipts. One restraunt that she had bought one from not only was able to give her another, but also gave her a dessert because of her trouble. How sweet was that. She was able to cancel out the others before the thieves were able to use them.

If you were trying to use it online, some places don't take gift cards as they cannot verify the identification of the cardholder.

Were you swiping it yourself or did the clerk do it? I didn't know this until that same thing happened to me, but when you swipe it yourself you have to put it in as a credit card. I thought i could do it as a debit since I wasn't "charging" something, simply reducing the remaining balance on the card - like debiting my checking acct.

And it said $25, so I took my family out to Subway for lunch and it worked just fine, and still had $8 left on it which I used at 7-11 and it worked fine there, too.

Maybe calling to verify the balance activates it somehow?

You have to activate them first on the internet. The web site is on the card. I did not know this either and I just by chance looked the card over and checked out the web site.

I received a beautiful Christmas card in the mail and inside was a VISA card from Transcend wishing me a Merry Christmas and the card even says "thank you" on it! I wasn't expecting that. My $13 prepaid Discover card came in the mail as thanks for not slitting my wrists while training on a new platform. So, for MT week, I was one of the finalists for the MT of the year contest. I made it to the final round, thus getting a 100.00 gift card from MModal. Well, on my last check stub under the deductions is a category called "taxable prizes" and listed under that is my 100.00 gift card. If Transcend was going to send me something worth less than a dollar store item, I would have rather had the dollar. I got my MLS weak (pun intended) gift. Actually, I kind of like it. I do keep a note pad on my desk and jot things down while I work...not always work related, but hey! It seems more useful than the leather mousepad I got from Spheris years ago. I would have prefered a cash bonus or some free PTO, but they probably got a deal on the thousands of these gifts that they ordered and the actual cost to them was minimal. Weak effort to make me feel appreciated. I still feel underpaid! ...
