I hope it is okay. I just need to vent a little. I just got a new job with a very reputable company ( I prefer not to say which one) and yesterday was my first day. I knew I would be on 100% QA. I found out yesterday that I am only allowed to type 3 reports a day until I am off QA. I am so upset. I understand they have to make sure I am typing things accurately and according to format but 3 reports a day ? Then later this afternoon I heard from the big boss. She had talked with the QA folks and they told her I am not ready to be off QA that it would be "some time". What does that mean ? "Some time" could be a few days to a few weeks. I can't afford to keep tying just 3 reports a day and I just don't know what to do. I must be losing whatever touch I had as a transcriptionist or else my work would be satisfactory. I just really don't know what to do. Guess I should have just stayed where I was. Thanks everyone for letting me talk.

I think you are being too hard on yourself. You are just 1 day learning and working on this account which includes the account specs and the way the company runs things. It seems they have been hiring people to give the most negative feedback, general emails and so-called motivation as of late.
I know you want to get in there and make money. We all need it. Just do you 3 jobs tomorrow and check them extra coz you have time and let youth shoulders lower some below your ears. ; ) We've all been there (even boss and QA) so don't let them intimidate or psyche you out. Best of luck and hang in there!

now like a lot of MTSO's, so they are just allowing you to work a little. Don't let it take your self-esteem. Besides, MTs are like fine wine--we get better with time. You are not losing your touch.

When I was first hired by TT I had the very same experience and they also told me the same thing, "it would be awhile before I would be off QA." Naturally my ego took a hit, but I persisted and did the best I could and finally came off 100% QA much sooner than I thought I would. Hang in there and ask them often during that time how well you are doing. By the way, it was only 1 of the QA people that did this to me, and over time I heard she did this to others as well. So, hang in there, but if you are uncomfortable with this company, try and see if you can get your old job back. I wish you all the luck in the world!

Do not take it personally. This is how some companies operate, as it is easier to address any potential client specifics, format differences, or errors with just a few reports than entire large batches. If possible, ask for client specifics or which reference material to go by (Dorland's versus Stedman's), etc., to speed up the process and do your best. Also, from my experience in editing behind somebody as well as myself, the first batch or so, no matter how good they are, there is always something to correct, being a new account with new info. I always take that into consideration. Good luck on your new job!

I worked for a company that told me the same thing--only 3 reports a day. That company was Oracle. At the time, I had over 15 years experience as a transcriptionist. Maybe the company you are working for are micromanaging everything. Some people like to do that. I think it makes them feel important. Don't take it personally, they are the ones with the problem, not you.

I heard that Keystrokes was doing this too, only allowing 3 reports a day until off of QA. It is my guess,and I could be wrong, that if a company is doing multiple hires, they are only allowing 3 reports a day per new hire, so that QA is not inundated with having to review all reports and gets behind on "their work." I know that it does not make it any easier for the new hire, particularly if they are desperate for work. I sympathize with all who are going through this. Hang in there!!! I don't believe it is anything personal.

Whether or not you say which one is irrelevant. Those of us who have been around know who you are talking about. We all need to start looking for other ways to earn a living as this is not getting any better. I regret when a friend of mine told me in the 90s that this was happening, don't know how she knew, as she is/was not a transcriptionist. However, we can all see where this is going. I considered coding but over the last year more people in India have taken the test than in the U.S. It is amazing the people that work at MTSO, QA and MGRs, especially those who are not transcriptionists. The AAMT BOOK OF STYLE IS ALSO A JOKE. Seems like the "top person" thinks she is Bill Gates i.e. the way to get rich is to get an idea and keep tweaking it i.e. Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, XP, 7, 8. For AAMT BOOK OF STYLE IT IS Morton's neuroma, Baker's cyst, as we were all taught in English. Now it is Morton neuroma, Baker cyst. Try that in a freshman English college class, tell them that is what AAMT Book of Style says is correct and see how far that gets you/us!! REALLY!! Also, it was don't use cc always use mL (don't remember the reasoning behind this but it could not have been too imporant as most doctor's kept dicting cc. Now it is okay to use cc. AGAIN, REALLY!!!! Oh yes, you could be off QA tomorrow, in 3 days, or longer. Also, you could be off by not having a job.

The "BOS" is truly just that -- Book of. Those of us who have been in the trenches for decades, I believe have more of an emphasis on patient care. I recently worked for a service that was VERBATIM, down to one dictator being so picky that it drove me nuts. I was told "verbatim," so if the doctor dictated "cc," that is what I transcribed, but got called on the carpet because of it and told to change to mL. Headers, even if not used, were to be left in and there was a certain way a certain facility wanted the headers done in their operative reports. Talk about stress and anxiety. I remember the days when starting out in this field, that the MTSO would go to bat for the MT and speak up to the doctor. Now, they are too afraid for fear of losing the contract.

Another thing too, that these giant MTSOs have created that makes it even worse for those of us working at home is the "further sense of isolation," meaning that I remember the days when working for an MTSO, we were allowed to contact other MTs whom may be working for the MTSO as well, and if needed, could call each other and "lend and ear" if need be. Now, the MTSOs discourage us from interacting with our coworkers, and I strongly suspect it is because of "the fear factor," and that we might band together and say something bad/negative about what is truly going on.

We are the ball and the MTSOs just keep swinging. we take the beating, they take the glory. TAT is the supreme being to them, with every client request honored at our expense. They will change the rules every whipstitch and we juggle all these from multiple sources until we are dizzy, while the pay goes down and work load is sporadic with over-hire for TAT. Got one foot out of the door, thank you Jesus. Seriously.

Forgive me keystrokers, but it sounds like Keystrokes. I too was given three reports a day when I first started and apparently they didn't like my work, so they fired me.

What ever happened to D or A? They have let many go and just because they can. Doesn't mean they have to give a reason, nor a true one. Why start with the truth now. They do what they want,so they fire away.

I am with Keystrokes and I was allowed 5 reports a day until off of QA. I was only on it for 3 days. Not bad .... Just hang in there.

In the past week my team has gotten several e mails. Main topic covers 2 things: Poor quality (a huge number of major errors being reported to sup), and the other Quantity (people are not living up to the required new lph by the new compensation plan. I'm so sick of having my right hand have to bounce back and forth from trackball to home keys, and arrow keys back to home keys it is much slower than transcription. I also lose time having to constantly stop and feel for the home key position. I did a search for keyboards and found two that have the trackball or touch pad in the middle lower portion of the keyboard so you can do what used to be mouse work with your thumbs and it looks like your fingers don't have to leave ...

Seems like for a while now the keys take a harder touch, sometimes they don't connect and I have to hit a key twice. it's a microsoft wireless comfort keyboard, model 1027. I have taken canned air and blown dust and cat hair out of it, wondering if using alcohol swabs gently in each key mechanism might help? Space bar works well, seems to be only specific keys that stick or don't connect well. Backspace is one of the sticky ones. Any suggestions apprec ...

I have recently learned that I will be losing 3 of my best doctors to EMR. Since then, one of the doctors has offered to keep me on entering the clinic notes into the EMR for him. I would still be working from home as an IC, but would need some training on their EMR system. Any suggestions as to what I would charge for this? I currenlty bill by cpl. Is it only me or is anyone else losing serious money here? for the past 6 months I have NOT been able to make more than 950 dollars a month take-home. now with the new program my pay is even less.
