IS THERE ANY GOOD COMPANY TO WORK FOR?? - Anon

Posted: Feb 29, 2012

I have been looking for a new company to switch to and I have been looking for some advice by posts in this forum; however, all I see are negative comments about various companies. Are there any good companies out there? I'm especially looking for one that has good pay, actually has a good QA/QC department who can actually speak the english language and competent supervisors. Please let me know!!

There are a lot of them, but you will only find negative people here. - HalfFull MT

What??? Are you serious? Now why in the world - sm

would you think someone would be negative unless there was a reason???

Well, you are here.

I work for Nuance or NTS (nuance transcription services). I have worked with them since November and besides it taking a few months to get a steady work flow I have loved it. I have 3 accounts at the moment and 2 different team leads, neither of which have any problem with the english language ;). They have a chat system so if you work daytime shift (which I do not) there is typically a TL online you can immediately talk to or a QC or super QC. If no one is online because you work nights (as I do) then you can email and it has never taken more than 24 hours for a reply except once out of the numerous times I have emailed them.

I would agree with the other poster though, I'm sure someone is going to come on and say how Nuance was horrible and they hated it. It's all perspective. I am lucky to be able to work the schedule I wanted to work at home in my pjs. If you don't do the work though or don't like to work (not that you don't, but I think that is part of the problem of said complainers) then you probably aren't going to like any employer.

I also work for Nuance...but have had opposite experience - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
...I have currently three supervisors, one for each account, and each one I have had problems with..especially lack of communication, claiming to have emails to me that they never did and definitely the QA problems. I get audited because the QA person can't obviously speak english and I have to defend myself. I don't have the time to be checking other people's work and not getting paid for it!!

I have said this before.... - sm

QA is NOT Indian. We are U.S. based....India is completely separate from the U.S., which makes me wonder if you really work there. We QA both U.S. and India....not the other way around. When Nuance bought Focus, they separated everything. Also, if you are so unhappy, why do you stay??

uhoh - NuanceEmp

How long have you been with Nuance? Have you tried contacting an HR manager? I know when I first got on and was getting everything squared away I got in contact with my original hiring manager and got things taken care of.

Who's work do you have to check? Are you talking about editing a VR file?

Hope things get better or you find other employment. :)

You will just about always find negative comments on a given company here, as everyone brings different things to their job experience, and they have different experiences within a company. However, I find that Transcend is managed very well for being such a big company. I also find their QA people more fair and competent than other companies I have worked for. They have openings. You might give them a try.

Transcend - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm sitting here reading this board right now as I have no work with my accounts on Transcend. Yep, I have 3 accounts and no work right now. I have to work 12 hour days and my days off just to come close to making my line count. Forget about benefits, I can't make the quota to receive them. I'm job looking. This is ridiculous. I'm hoping to hear from Nuance soon.

Oh man, I was just going to join Transcend - because of lack of work

[ In Reply To ..]
with present company. So, it's not worth it?
It may depend on what acct or region - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
you have, but since I've started there it's been nothing but chaos. I was hired in November for a new account that was supposed to start up in December. That got pushed back and back until the account decided not to sign on with Transcend. Meanwhile, I was typing for other accts. Now, I have those as one primary and two secondaries.

I'm not reaching the line count I need to for full time or making the $900 gross to receive full-time benefits.

This isn't what I signed on for. Maybe other regions or accounts are better. I'm asking to be added to yet another secondary in hopes of meeting my quota. Meanwhile, I'm looking at other opportunities.

well, recent communications have said to - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
go to your TL, and if no satisfaction, to your ROM, and keep going up the ladder until someone accommodates you, as they have MANY open positions. Have you done that? or just expect them to know that you need another account?
ummm no I don't expect them to know what I need - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
There is no reason to be snarky. What recent communications are you talking about? Did you receive an email about this? I didn't. Maybe you are management...

no, I am not management - just a regular peon.
[ In Reply To ..]
and I apologize if my post sounded snarky; not intended to. There was mention of this workflow issue with some in an e-mail 2/8 from Sue M. I believe there was also mention in the recent newsletter, maybe other mail. There was mention of the many open requisitions and that they'd rather give this work to those already in the company when possible. Again, sorry if last post sounded snotty.
If you had read my post.... - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
You would have seen that I already have 3 accounts and I'm asking for another one.

I'm not just sitting here waiting on someone to give me work. I seriously doubt you are a "peon" as you say you are.
Keep asking for more work. I've been at Transcend - wannie
[ In Reply To ..]
since shortly after the first of the year and currently have 5 or 6 accounts because EVERY time I run out of work, I e-mail and ask for me. Keep asking.
Sounds like she's covered her bases - Not to be smart
[ In Reply To ..]
She said she has 3 accounts and is asking for another. I think she trying to do her best to get work.

I doubt she is just sitting around for 12hrs "expecting them to know" she needs another account.

Bad company to work for. - just me

[ In Reply To ..]
I worked for Trascend and it was a terrible experience. I would not recommend them to anybody, unless you like being on food stamps.

Is one an employee or an IC at Transcend?

I am happy at... - Happy

SGS...I'm on 3 accounts, always have work, pay is fair (could be better, could be worse). Team lead is great. Insurance isn't the worst (certainly not the best, either). Pay is on time. QA is fast and consistent. 401K. Communicate via IM during working hours. Treated nicely. This is my 3rd company.

Do you know if they are hiring? - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I couldn't find a recent ad from them online.

try googling - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
This was in response to her about SGS. You might check your info before giving out lessons ;)

I know how to google thank you and don't need a lesson.

I am capable of checking this out myself and sending in my resume, but just asked for some inside info.

Nuance - just me

[ In Reply To ..]
I was hired by WebmedX in December and I DID know it had been absorbed by Nuance. I have had an adjustment to the VR (my first exposure) but I enjoy the accounts I work on and the hours. Even though there was a lot of speculation that the pay rate was going to DROP in December, just the opposite was true, however no shift differential for SAT/SUN work :((

My team leader is a joke! All we get are rah-rah emails twice a day and when he asks for work shift changes or OT, I have responded both by phone and email, and fail to get any response.

Bottom line: Good place to work, fair pay (considering), but poor communication for the most part.

Nuance - Webber

[ In Reply To ..]
In response to your post, pay rate did drop for many MTs who were working at Webmedx for the last few years or longer. We used to get more for VR (pretty terrible VR engine we have). Our accounts are supposed to be switching over to eScription next week and that is supposed to be a much better VR engine, but I believe that with eScription our VR pay rate will drop as stated in the previous compensation webinar (current VR rate was a differential based on current poor VR engine).

My manager is also pretty much clueless and demanding overtime constantly. Communication stinks.

I don't consider it a good place to work, but it's all subjective and based on personal opinion.

Part-time minimum? - Set schedule?

[ In Reply To ..]
What is the minimum hour/line requirement per week for Nuance? Do they let you pick a varied schedule to stick to? Thanks so much :D

I'm still happy at MQ/MModal...totally depends on - not saying

[ In Reply To ..]
what accounts you are on. I've worked for worse. What are you looking for? I can live without communication and bonuses. I just want work and pay on time. And I'm still getting these after all the warnings from people on this board for the last 3 years.

Yeah I might get stoned for sayin it - But MModal as been good to me

[ In Reply To ..]
I hear a lot of talk about them too and people being unhappy. But I've got a good CCM and a wonderful QA coach and they make my job a delight.

Im with the other poster, I dont need a lot of communication either; just as long as there is work flowing steadily and Im not bouncing all over the place.

Im tier 3 and I make a decent line rate in comparison to the industry standard. Like the old saying goes "if it aint broke, dont fix it". So Im staying put.
