Good part-time company? - sm

Posted: Aug 30, 2012

I need supplemental income and am looking for a companyto work as an IC.  I am not overly concerned about running out of work, as I just want supplemental income.  Does anyone know a company that it is easy to get started, no long drawn out hiring process with IC work that is maybe overflow or something along those lines or am I just dreaming?  TIA.

I would say.. - sm

TTD **BUT** proceed with caution and do you research because I have read/heard they only pay 3cpl which is horrific for an IC rate considering you have to pay your own taxes.

Also, many posters here have complained about not being paid.

Maybe keep checking the job seekers board and read through the posts on company board about different companies. I wouldn't think part-time IC would be too hard to find, thats not asking much.

Oracle. Try them, they hire ICs and may have - part-time openings. Worth checking.

My observation of InScribe is that an MT would "owe their soul to the company store." At "InScribe University," they train new MTs, then hire them and let them "work off their tuition," which probably translates into working for nothing or ending up owing the company money. To me, it doesn't sound like the place for an experienced MT or even a new MT for that matter.

That was an observation - now here are the FACTS about InScribe University. I am not just providing these as the Director of Inscribe University, but also as an MT, WGM, and Intake/Placement Coordinator. I have been with InScribe 4+ years. First off, let me start by saying that we are currently not taking new students, but are working on implementing the SUM Program and expect this to be up and going in early 2013. Next, the program that has been in place since 2006 allows an aspiring MT to take the course through the University, followed by an internship and contract offer for those who successfully complete the program. We have many MTs with us that went through the program and are still with InScribe. We currently have over 30 active students and 30+ who have finished the University and/or enrolled in just the internship program. Yes, there is a fee associated for the course. Students are currently waived the fee up front, allowing those who cannot afford to pay the opportunity to receive training while postponing payment until after completion. Upon completion, payment arrangements are set up (interest free), and taken via payroll deduction. The payment is agreed upon based on what the student/MT can afford and rather low at the beginning, as we all know it takes time to make money in this profession. The fee is much less than other schools and typically can be paid off in a very short time. This works the same way as if you would take out a student loan for another institution, as typically, student loans are paid back in small increments upon completion of studies. The benefit of taking a course through InScribe is that we contract with all our students who successfully complete the program, unlike other schools who may not have their own transcription company- this eliminates the job search. Another BIG plus is that if you've noticed, most companies require 1 to 2 years' experience to even get your foot in the door. As I mentioned, we will be starting a new program early 2013, and there will be some up-front costs to the student for materials and books associated with the SUM program, but again, the majority of the tuition can be paid in installments via payroll deduction or other payment arrangements upon completion.

InScribe pays $.07/line and I love it here!! - gw

InScribe uses echo transcription and so this is basically editing what you have "echo dictated" after the doc. I feel like they understand the constant changes in the MT/healthcare industry and work to ensure my job security. So far, so good!

I used to work IC for FutureNet. They paid very well but their accts seemed to be ALL ESL. Pay was on time. I haven't heard much about them lately so not even sure they are still around. Friendly people, on time pay, very hard accts. The on time pay was the clincher for me.

I recently started with Inscribe as an IC - see message

The 2 biggest pluses for them to me are:
1. They are encouraging the use of Dragon Medical for their MTs. After you get going, they will get you set up so you can echo dictate, which does boost production when you learn to use it. I've been using it for a couple of years now, so I was really excited to see a company that actually encourages it and makes it available to their MTs. Most services are completely clueless to even the concept of MTs using the VR technology rather than the doctors.

2. You can communicate with other MTs working on the same account(s) as you so when you have questions you can IM them with live chat and even ask them to listen to a spot on your report you're having trouble with at the moment. It's nice to have that support with a couple of other people listening with you to a difficult report to help figure out what is being said. Very few reports go to QA that way, and everyone is very supportive of one another in this forum. Everyone willing to help. It's pretty cool.

How do you get this program and can you use it on any transcription program? Is it costly or is there a place to get it cheaper or does your employer have to provide it? TIA.

Dragon - 2 cents

[ In Reply To ..]
When I did regular transcribing, I purchased a Dragon program. I put a lot of reports through it as well as training it to my voice. I listened to the doc, repeated what he said, then edited. I could type it much faster (and I am not a speedy typist). In scribe says they have 99.5% accuracy. I can do that transcribing, but the hospital account I work is 98.5 and that is hard to achieve with VR with ESL docs. Don't know how anyone would make money having to run at such slow speed to achieve 99.5.

Not Dragon Medical - just Dragon - InScribe MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry, but its not the uber-fancy Dragon Medical, just a later version of Dragon Naturally Speaking. Since the majority of their platforms are XP-based, the software version has been chosen to be compatible. I work on an ER account, and ultimately it is faster using AutoText, AutoCorrect, and ESP to generate the reports than using DNS on a consistent basis. Sure, I use it from time to time to save the wrists and fingers some wear-and-tear, but overall, it won't gain you a lot of extra time.

If you pass your first quality eval with a - 99.5%, you can ask for a copy (NM)

99.5% - 2 cents
[ In Reply To ..]
Working with VR, I changed accounts from an account of 98% QA to an account of 98.5% QA. I have to slow down to get that extra .5%, so that costs me a dollar or 2 an hour with these ESL docs. Of course, dictation is 50% worse one day than another, but overall, I would rather have the usual 98% account.
What about the patient? - anon

If I were the patient, I'd want the most accurate medical record possible! Not to mention the doctor's preference!

Trying To Find Part-time Or Full-time Employee Position (hospital/clinic)
Apr 30, 2013

If anyone knows of a hospital, clinic, or large practice offering remote full-time or part-time employee positions, I would really appreciate an email.  I have the sudden need to help support a family member long term (in addition to myself) and really need to find a long-term remote employee position for the stability.  Yes, I watch all the various employment sites and even individual hospital sites, but I was hoping that maybe, just maybe someone who works for a hospital that does th ...

MQ Rehire Policy For Part Time To Full Time
Apr 09, 2011

I worked for MQ full time and then went to part time last year, before finally quitting altogether because of health problems. I seem to remember an obscure policy that if you were full time and then went to part time, you could not go back to full time for a period of at least 1 year.  Can anyone verify that for me? IF, and this is a big IF, I were to go back to work for MQ, I would need to be full time. ...

Optiscript Part Time To Full Time

Does anyone care to share that if you are hired at optiscript part time will they let you change to full time easily? I know they are a small company and do not over hire so I do not know how easily this could be done.  I am thinking of cutting down to part time at my current employee so I can work part time elsewhere and eventually just leave my current employee once I see how the land lays elsewhere.  Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated :) ...

Change From Full- Time To Part- Time.

I am still debating whether to enroll at Andrews or M-TEC.  My husband is retiring in 2 years and I want to be able to work part-time after that.  Is it realistic to think that I can complete the course at Andrews or M-TEC in 12 months at the most, work full time for a year and then part-time after that.  I would want to be able to work from home.  I guess the other question is "How long after graduating could I expect to earn enough to make it worth the investment, in a reas ...
