I left MT to work from Hertz at home in April where they hired 64 employees. The week after labor day, without any warning, they called all of us in and laid us off. They took the insurance the same day and gave us our sign on bonus that we had earned and a severance check, provided we signed a covenant not to sue...so it is not only Transcription companies that have no regard for their employees, it is most companies...So I ask myself...Is anybody truly happy with their jobs???

I don't know anyone happy with their job. Not just MT, in fact, none other than myself. Of the 4 I can think of that I know well, none of them are happy with their job. Three of them are working in hospitals---$35,000 a year to $65,000 a year. The $65,000 a year hates hers the most. Have to admit, listening to the stories, it is one kind of "special" place.

escaped the horrid MTSO I'd worked for for years, and lucked into an on-site MT job. For a few short months, I was VERY happy, because my paycheck supported me, allowed me a small savings account, and the place was one of those rare, pleasant offices to work in. I had 2 really nice MT co-workers. Then, out of the blue, they laid us all off a few months later, so my happiness was short-lived. The only silver lining is that once the UE ran out, I was able to get on Medicaid for healthcare. So now I'm starting to re-think even looking for another job. I'm just so OVER it all.

I've left MT at various times in 40 years but always come back. As long as it's still good to me, I'm staying. When I'm no longer happy, I'm out.

a part timer, husband retired, me semi-retired. I have always loved transcription, I really like editing, and I like the people I work for, have known some of them for years and years. If I still had a family to support I'd probably be singing a different tune, though, cause the money isn't what it used to be.

Have no choice but to stay in MT for now because the money, as paltry as it is, is much needed for bills.

Granted, I've had MT jobs in the past (both full-time and part-time) that have not made me happy, made me want to pull my hair out, cry, scream and throw my 'puter right out the window (sometimes all at the same time). However, I've recently been working full-time for a small company as an IC. I had been working part-time for this company since 2006 while working full-time at a few national companies which were detrimental to my health and slowly sucking the life right out of me. I was putting in extra hours just to make my minimum line count, I was constantly worrying about paying my bills (I'm single), I was crying nearly every payday, etc., etc.

I then decided as I was working so much for so little to go to my IC job and ask if I could work full-time. Thankfully there are more than enough accounts and I have been happy for the last two years working only one job. All straight typing, no VR and we get a batch of work at 7 PM that is not due back 'til 7 PM the following night. I honestly couldn't ask for more. I'm making good money and more importantly my stress level has decreased dramatically; I actually enjoy "going to work" in the mornings! I realize that this likely won't last forever, but I'm going to enjoy it and make the most of it while it does last!

I am so very sorry to hear what happened with you at Hertz. That is just not right. I do hope you can find a job soon, and not just any job but a job that will make you happy. Best of luck to you!

I'm happy with my job. It allows me to work from home as an MT. I'm an employee with a local cardiology office. They leave us to do our work (there's one other transcriptionist who's become a friend). Great office to work for, just M-F, now weekends of holidays. Great benefits and PTO. My daughter also loves her job. She just graduated from college and she's a Vet Tech. She knew what she wanted to do with her life ever since she was five years old. I do sometimes wish I had done something like that, but for now I'm happy where I am.

I love my job and my employer, I truly do. Of course, I'm also fairly simple. Some days it's a grind, sure, but that's life. There are ups and downs but thankfully the good days outweigh the bad ones.

I know I got a good thing going, and of course we all know good things don't last, so I'm squeezing out every drop out of it and myself as I possibly can until that time comes!

I've been at TTS for almost 3 years and I have nothing but positive things to say about TTS. I never have to guess what TTS expects from me, and I do my best to deliver that on a consistent basis. Communication flows freely and efficiently. My team leader and 2 shift leads are EXCELLENT managers in my opinion. Everything I invest in my job comes back to me and then some. I am surprised at just how many or your are miserable with what you do. I am a new MT ans I am also having trouble finding work. It's not easy. I was laid off as an MT a couple of months ago. I am wondering if there is a single person on this forum who is an MT who is happy with their job (including the miniscule pay that would be appropriate compensation if it were around 1975 rather than 2013 or lived in another country in which one can buy a lot more with 50 cents). Sunday it will be 2 months I have been at my new position since leaving MM. I no longer need to take Prilosec daily and my dr. has decreased my BP med. Furthermore, I was asked after a month if I would like to do full time editing at 6 cpl AND I get paid for every single line I edit....not less than half that MM pays their MMEs.
