Happy with Transcend? - nm

Posted: Aug 22, 2011

Anyone happy here? Are you able to meet the 900 dollar FT requirement? How is the BeyondText platform?  Making a huge decision, and having a hard time.  Thanks!

There is a learning curve with Beyondtxt, but 900 dollars a pay period once you get the hang of it is a piece of cake. The company works with you to make sure you have your primary and secondary to make the doe you need. They also supply samples which are the most helpful to learn the ESL docs. I also like their flexibility around hours. Good luck. Always hard to make a big decision.

more than 900 a pay period? - considering Transcend also

[ In Reply To ..]
I think that minimum seems pretty low. Are you able to make a lot more than that? I need a job where I can make much more. I applied with Transcend, but they didn't have anything but 3rd shift, so told me to keep checking back. However, I cannot live on 900 a pay period. I realize that's the minimum for benefits and I'm glad to hear it's easy to reach, but I am wondering if you find you are able to go well beyond that. I make $41,000/year right now at a job that is pretty stressful. I am afraid to make a leap for fear I won't make even close to that. I am interested in Transcend, however. Are you able to work as many hours as you need to to make your own line goals?

depends - nm

Are you currently making that amount as a remote transcriptionist? If so, I would stick with it! It seems the income varies greatly from MT to MT, but the rates for VR are usually around .04 to .05 cpl and SR can vary depending on experience. This is how it seems to be for almost all the companies now (including Transcend). So, it just depends on what you can produce per hour. If you can produce 400+ lines per hour VR, you may still be able to maintain that income. I never was able to produce that much, but am hoping if I return to transcription I will be more motivated and able to produce at least 300 to 325 VR. There are people who do very well with VR, so I do think it's possible even with the rates these days. I have seen posts on here from Transcenders who say they most definitely exceed the 900 dollar FT requirement, not sure by how much, but there are MTs out there who still do very well.

I'm also currently making around 40,000 a year outside of the home at a pretty stressful job, but have made a huge choice to come back home and am having trouble letting go of the job. I know I'd be happier though and my family would be better taken care of, so that's what's driving my decision. Just hope it's the right one. Good luck!

I agree with you, 900 a WEEK is more realistic. - Perhaps 900 a pay period is poster error?

[ In Reply To ..]
900 a payperiod = 450/wk before taxes and my mortgage is 1000.00/mo. With that, in one hand I'll show you a rock, in the other, a hard place.

Personally, I'd stay put at 41,000/yr and someday can you pass along that compnay name for future reference? Just to be allowed to shoot for more (as in undesignated, no limits) is a rarety.

Sometimes it feels as though the powers that be decided what the pay scale is for MTs and that's that (usually 25K to 35K/yr) - duely noting, however, never allowed to be greater than management salaries. Even tho production means the more we can do more, the more we can make. THAT power is mine...sadly under their control and deemed worthless. Which, in turn, moves us out of the professional category right back into...a JOB...just like any other that requires no specialized education/training. Like ET hiding in the closet - secretary, office clerk, waitress, MT, doorman...etc.

The erosion over the years is pathetic. The only appeal left to this is being able to work at home.
Nope, it is $900 per pay period. - sm

Yes, that is the very minimum required to maintain benefits. I make a very good living there with mostly VR, more than the $41,000 you're making. It just depends how good you area at VR editing unless you land a straight typing account. I think I average around 450 lph VR editing and 250 straight typing, but am still relatively new at VR editing and trying to increase that.
ahhh...now your cookin'. thanks for clearing that up. - as long as they let you fly...

...the sky is the limit!

I would starve-only $900? Glad I chose - Other company

[ In Reply To ..]
I had the option of Transcend or another larger national a few months ago. I'm now averaging 15,000 lines a pay period on straight transcription, at a higher line rate than transcend offered. I'm glad I made the choice of going to a company who refuses to outsource, as I feel this is one of the big differences.

account choice? - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
Okay, this may seem like a no-brainer, but I also need some advice on this.

One account they offered is brand new. It is acute care, but low on OP notes, only 25% ESL, and 85% SR. The other account has been around awhile, but has 50% ESL, 90% SR, heavy OP notes. I think the new account would be a better fit as far as work types and ESL percentage, but is that unwise considering the docs will be new and the speech engine won't be performing as well, or would it not make much of a difference? Also thought about samples; wouldn't be samples for the new account, right? Seem to be conflicted every step of the way. Thanks for any input. :)

When an account is new... - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
It is all straight typing at first while the system learns the new docs. Some of them come off straight typing relatively quickly and others that are more difficult take a while, but the speech engine shouldn't be too bad as long as the people doing the straight typing in the initial stages are doing a good job for the editor to learn from. As far as samples, there probably won't be any at first unless the facility was kind enough to provide some. From there it depends on your region and if they are good about trying to put up samples as soon as they have some from the work being done.

On the surface, my own choice would be the - old account as I like ops; however,

I've noticed that higher percentages of "ESL" may indicate lower-budget facilities, with a concommittant increase in physicians with significant communication problems, overworked physicians, lower standards for dictation across the board, bad data input, etc. With a specific exception for providers with overly detailed and time-consuming specs, I'd always choose for a facility operating at an overall higher quality level.

I am considering Transcend and would like to know what you like about the company, overall communication, flexibility if you have an appointment.  I know not everyone is happy with certain companies and I take that into consideration.  Is there enough work?  I really would like to hear from people that are happy and who are doing acute care and/or radiology.  Thanks in advance for all your help.  ...

To All The "happy" Transcend Employees
Dec 20, 2010

Love reading all the posts on Transcend. For those of you that are happy there, good for you. You must be one of the ones that either "cheat/cherry pick" or your TL/ROM is your best buddy.  The region I work in is notorious for people cherry picking and when TL and ROM are told about this, nothing happens.. No wonder some people are happy. If I could pick and choose what jobs and what doctors  I wanted to do I'd probably be a lot happier too. It either forces you to "do the same" ...

Happy Transcriptions Is Still Happy
Aug 19, 2013

Who in their right mind names a company "Happy Transcriptions?" In this day and age, all I see is "sad" MTs and, in my opinion, if "Happy Transcriptions" is still happy, they can only be messing even more with us poor "sad" MTs. All I can say is I am so "happy" I am so close to being on my way out of MT! ...

Happy At TTS
May 03, 2010

I've been at TTS for almost 3 years and I have nothing but positive things to say about TTS.  I never have to guess what TTS expects from me, and I do my best to deliver that on a consistent basis.  Communication flows freely and efficiently.  My team leader and 2 shift leads are EXCELLENT managers in my opinion.  Everything I invest in my job comes back to me and then some.  I can recommend TTS to anybody unapologetically. ...

Is Anyone Happy Being An MT
Oct 30, 2010

I am surprised at just how many or your are miserable with what you do.  I am a new MT ans I am also having trouble finding work.  It's not easy.  I can see that having editing to fall back on would be good.  I have read the posts about don't do this just to work from home.  I have small children and my only choice would be daycare if I went to work somewhere, which would eat up half my pay check.  Sometimes it's not just money, sometimes it's fo ...

I've read tons and tons of negative complaints about VR, but are there people out there who actually like it? Any Happy MTs Out There???
Nov 28, 2011

Hi, everyone.   I was just wondering if there are any MTs out there that are happy with their jobs and are able to make some good money in this profession.  I have read lots and lots of posts, and it seems like a huge percentage of the posts are about how bad people's jobs are and how little money they are making.  I understand people need to vent, but there have to be some MTs that are happy and making money.  I recently graduated from one of the top MT schools and ...

Happy With Job
Nov 06, 2012

I understand how frustrated many people are with the way things are going with MT jobs.  I am not posting this to make anyone feel worse, but to let people know that there are some good jobs in MT.  I work for a private local medical office. I had been worried, too, as our office offered voice recognition to docs and some use it.  A lot got frustrated, mostly the ones who want their notes to be correct, and went back to using our services.  I had even been looking at online M ...

Anybody Happy?
Oct 20, 2013

I am wondering if there is a single person on this forum who is an MT who is happy with their job (including the miniscule pay that would be appropriate compensation if it were around 1975 rather than 2013 or lived in another country in which one can buy a lot more with 50 cents).
