Goodbye Transcend! - Ex-Transcend

Well I did it finally. I quit Transcend. I hope they will eventually wake up and realize that VR does not enable you to double your production, but I doubt they ever will. I realized that after they switched all my accounts over, I really cared so little about my accounts and if I was making mistakes that it was time I left. I felt absoloutely no loyalty to this company anymore. They don't care about me, why should I care about them. I am leaving this profession for good and found something not in MTing. I have never been so relieved!

Thanks for speaking for a lot of us, and thanks for leaving a company that cares little and hoping they will at some point. Wish you well in the non-MT world. :)

Am happy you got out (and can see how you would--I got out after the merger and everything started falling apart)--however, you should have cared about whether you were making mistakes not for Transcend (I loathe them) but for the PATENT, whose wellbeing should be the bottom line. I hope you enjoy your new job.

Yes, I know I should care. Like I said, the reason I quit was because I felt myself not caring anymore. I don't like the kind of MT Transcend was making me. I have always taken pride in my work and been very careful (proofing every page), but when I was making about 9 dollars an hour, I just stopped caring...hence I quit.

I understand. I was not making you wrong or beating you up; sorry if it sounded that way. After many years in MT, I am quitting, too, changing careers. In my heart I have always wanted to be a tech, not an MT, and am looking at that as an option. Looking at several other things. I cannot retire for several years (at least 15) so cannot just walk away. I hate what our MT world has become, and if I were not the head of my household, I would quit right now. Even though I decided not to work for Transcend, I went to a company that is nearly as bad. I think they have all read the MQ playbook and are using it as much as they can. (Can you tell I am a football fan--yeah, Steelers!) But anyway, I wish you all the best. I hope you can find something you like. I hope Transcend's karma bites them in the, well...... you know.

because I have a few things I want to pay off, plus I have a trip planned this spring, and don't want to start a new job right now. My income is cut in half. I realize that, apparently, there are some out there who are burning it up on VR, and I'm happy for them. I can transcribe between 225 to 250 lph; there is no way I can edit the crap I'm getting at 500 lph.

I don't blame you at all, and I have a feeling that I and several others are not far behind you....

There has since been pretty reliable documentation that the high (typing) producer has the least to gain when being switched over to editing. You are already fast, and have much less room to get faster than someone, say, who types 150 lph. About 25% to 30% more is what most high producers do, and of course that translates into a massive pay cut.

So glad to hear I'm not alone! I quit too, only I walked away...not just from Transcend but the entire profession (37 years' worth). It is certainly nothing like it once was. No more pride in my job. We're now made to act and feel like machines. And, I was sick and tired of having to constantly "adjust" my times on my time sheet (illegal if you ask me...the hours I work should be recognized and not deleted). It's time for this ex-Transcender and ex-MTer to move on and find something that will finally bring satisfaction in the work I do and restore my sense of self-worth, but definitely not as an MT. Oh excuse me...that should read "not as an MLS!" Another Good profession gone by way of the "crapper." IMHO

You bet your life it is illegal to adjust your timesheet! If it were me, I would be making a little trip to see the Labor Board about that one. And I agree that the profession has been taken right into the crapper. I would really like to make a change. If the economy were not so bad, would like a real estate license. I too am looking for a second career. But congratulations on leaving Transcend! You are not a machine and I really do hope that you will find some new work that is good and nourishing for you. I always say, you have to have something left when the paycheck is gone. Anyway, congratulations. For what my humble opinion is worth, you made a good decision!

I was notified today that I have been chosen for a job with the local hospital - not doing transcription. I finally get to say goodbye to no vacation, no sick pay, working 24/7, no pay increase, no recognition for a job well done, having to worry about my own taxes, and just everything that goes along with it, like the lying and back-stabbing from managers *** and owners ***, and having to deal with QA who says they follow BOS, but then makes things up as they go. My membership has expired and in today's mail was a membership renewal request from AHDI. I tossed it in the trash. I lucked upon my first MT position because of a friend. The clinic where we worked was closing. I was a nurse and had just found out I was pregnant and she was our office transcriptionist. Not many places want to hire a pregnant nurse, so doing transcription seemed to be the answer to my prayers. Just about the time I was ready to go back to nursing.....ooops pregnant again. It's time to move on. There are things I have learned while at Nuance, and I am grateful to have a job when I really needed it, but I am happy to be moving on. Good morning everyone. I am happy to report that on June 12th I gave my resignation to BR. No 2-wk. notice, and not even 1-day notice. Kiss your exclusives goodbye. As of right now, I am seeing other people's exclusives and they are seeing mine in their pool as well. The way it works is your exclusives will feed in at the top with higher priority, and then after those, you will see other people's exclusives feeding in at lower priority. I am curious as to if the TLs are meeting their requirements. They are expected to type 75-80% of their time and get paid by the line as well . I am very suspicious that they are not typing VR all day, having their work sent to India, etc, and are getting the straight typing.
