A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
I lucked upon my first MT position because of a friend. The clinic where we worked was closing. I was a nurse and had just found out I was pregnant and she was our office transcriptionist. Not many places want to hire a pregnant nurse, so doing transcription seemed to be the answer to my prayers. Just about the time I was ready to go back to nursing.....ooops pregnant again. So, I stayed doing transcription for eight years (not nearly as long as most of you on here).
Not that I have ever made great amounts of money doing this to begin with, but when you start your day by praying that you can make $40 to $50 dollars that day and taking anywhere from 8 to 10 hours and that being if I am really lucky now days with the VR. I am going back to work as an LPN and getting my BSN online. Where I live I will not set the world on fire with what I will get paid, but at least I know I will get paid and that there is always a job.
Not that anyone really wanted to hear my story just one of those times when you needed to vent. The one good thing is I really do love being a nurse.
In closing I would like to wish all those who stay in this profession (if you can call it that anymore) good luck and know that someone says a little prayer for you each day because it is going to take great courage to stay doing this. And, to those who are thinking about doing this DO NOT DO IT!!!! As the commercial goes "It is know where near PERFECTION". Goodbye and Good Luck!!!!!!
