Yes, Nuance bought OSI a couple weeks ago. Nuance is the company that owns Dictaphone, eScription, and Focus Informatics (the Indian transcription company). They also bought Encompass a few weeks before that. Earlier this year they bid on buying Spheris but were excluded from the final bid because of a conflict of interest. They're definitely on a journey to compete with MedQuist for #1.

they are collectively conspiring to take over all US transcription companies. Both MQ (CBAY) and Nuance are Indian owned.

How lucky the US workforce will be when the 2 biggest players are Indian and all smaller companies are forced out of business. I bet the two owners are cousins.

You may be right. With all the issues with US-owned MTSOs right now and trying to comply with healthcare reform, HITECH, labor laws squeezing out use of ICs, it's a tough business for US-owned companies. And the Indians seem to have plenty of money to buy up these small companies. Very concerning, and as long as hospitals and clinics agree to offshore labor for a cheaper price without concern for security or quality, it will keep happening. Keep educating our representatives and senators about all this.

with minimal interest or no interest quicker than US-based companies. Minority owned businesses are expanding at an unheard rate. Gas stations, hotels, motels, convience stores, etc. all mostly all owned by minorities, usually those from Muslim countries. I noticed this back in the '90s when we would go on vacation. This was a law initially passed to help immigrants "get a leg up" to being self-sufficient in their new country.

Nuance is perhaps not in the market for small business loans. They purchased Focus Informatics and that is their Indian connection. By now the fellow who owned Focus is nicely retired and happy as hell, no doubt. He is Indian. Nuance is headquartered in Burlington, MA and all their top people are located there. They have deep pockets and are buying up the competition to E-scription and will take a big hold on hospitsls and hopefully will push MQ to the curb. The company has a lot of American ingenuity. This is not to say they can't be ruthless but it does not make sense to blame everything bad about our industry on the Indians. It would be asy to get the work back home if the politicians would pass a tariff on work done outside of the country. Washington is loaded with greased palms. India is not a muslim country. The Philippines is not a muslim country. The annoying thing about my colleagues on this site is that they sometimes say the most outlandish things and being uniformed and not standing up for yourself in a professional way is a good part of the reason this crazy industry is in the shape it is in. There is something crazy about being proud to be working at home in your jammies and expecting a professional wage. Act it and get it maybe .. ??

I was just notifed by my company that I am working at that MedQuist has bought them out and will be taking over as of the middle of next month. I have been a MT for 30 yrs. I had to stop working 4 yrs ago due to health issues, then finally had 2 surgeries which pretty much took care of the problem. The first report I tried this with, I was able to copy into a Word document. The second tiime I tried to cut and paste, the first report kept showing up. The third time I tried it, the first report copied over the report I had just transcribed and I lost the transcribed report and had to do it all over again. What am I doing wrong. Like some of you, I'm being sooooo careful, going over my reports twice before sending them in, and they're coming back with a bunch ...
