DTS / Transcend - DTS employees transitioning to the new company - Just me

Posted: May 11, 2011

I went through the Transcend orientation yesterday for (former) DTS employees transitioning to the new company.  It left me very, very, very sad.  Transcend's methodology is so different from DTS.  The requirement of the $900 per pay period of full-time employees will be so difficult to achieve on this new BeyondText speech recognition as my pay will be cut based on what other MTs have told me!!!  (That and IF the work is available which in the past with DTS has been very off and on.)  The matching funds for 401K also left me sick.  They will so graciously match 50% of the first 4% that I contribute.  My husband's employer matches 100% of the first 10%. All I carried away from this meeting is that it is time to look for a new job or just get out of MT altogether and go work somewhere else. Sad day for me really.

at least they match something to your 401K, my company does not match anything! - so I got out of their 401K

How long did it take them to get the meeting running? - ExDTSer

I've been sitting on the phone listening to music for the past 15 minutes waiting for someone to get this party started. This is supposed to be work time for me, so I'm losing money and wasting time.

sounds like you will decide to get out of MT, but if one is considering staying with on-line transcription, I would considering hanging in there with Transcend. They have been very fair and flexible with me. Firstly, very very few companies anymore even match anything for your 401. So count your blessings. Your husband better be taking full advantage of his deal before it changes. If you do stay with Transcend, if you can hang in there through the transition, let them see what you are made of, and then you can always request transfer to a straight transcription account. There are many many accounts of various platforms and types, and if you show yourself to be a good employee, they would probably move you to keep you happy. I do straight transcription and have no problem, even being relatively slow, making the $900 per pay period. Transitions of any kind are not easy, and I much preferred my previous employer too. But we can only deal with the hand we are given. Good luck. Attitude is 90% of success.

I have worked with Transcend for almost 3 years now. If you ask them to move you to a straight typing account, they will tell you no. Been there, done that. As for Veteran MT, I have a friend who has been working for Transcend for over 7 years doing straight typing, and they just changed her typing accounts to all VR. She is struggling to make money now. Transcend is trying to make itself an editing company, and it will get there. And if you are unlucky enough to have my ROM, you wont' move anywhere in this company. Sorry to make you feel bad, but it's the truth. Overall, though, I think Transcend is still the best MTSO out there, which is very, very sad indeed.

I got transferred from hospital to Transcend. Now making much less than used to and benefits are crap at Transcend compared to hospital. I had trouble getting my 900 dollars at first, but they will find you more accounts to work on if you are having trouble making the 900. I think they know in transition at first learning the Beyondtxt you might be slow. Just ask for samples, samples, samples.
Totally not my experience at all... Stop the Transcend bashing.. - MnMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't have any trouble learning the BeyondTXT program, nor do I have trouble getting my $900 per pay period. I think if you can't make the grade, you should all quit whining and get a job elsewhere. Quit bashing Transcend.
MnMT: Just because you didn't have any - trouble does not mean SM

others shouldn't either. I really get offended with attitudes like yours. I don't know how old you are, how long you have been transcribing, and what computer/different platform skills you have. In my experience, I worked for a great company for over 10 years, used a very easy platform, made a decent wage, and stayed away from this forum because I was content. A few years ago, the bomb dropped, I was informed the company was being sold, and it would take place in a matter of months. I was in shock. I am in my late 50s and woefully unprepared as far as computers, platforms, etc. Excellent transcriptionist, but overwhelmed with what I had to absorb in a short period of time. Training was done by people who knew this stuff like the back of their hand and assumed I did too (I compared it to talking to a computer tech and after a point you are lost and just tune out). I was saved by another MT who knew a bit more than I did and took the time to help me and explain things so that I understood. Now I could probably train someone else on this platform. My point: There was a learning curve, some take longer than others, stop judging.

I don't consider this Transcend bashing. Happy employees do not bash a company in large numbers as is found here. It helps me immensely to read other's opinions, and I am experienced enough to take everything with a grain of salt. I am very gunshy of taking on Transcend with everything I have learned, with the cut in pay and problems of VR being the most predominant. I went through the Medquist consolidation back in 2005 and hung on for a year, but it was totally chaotic and my pay plummeted. I was able to rebuild my career and earnings at DTS, but I have little faith that Transcend will offer me the same experience. Thanks for all your responses and best of luck to all former DTSers.

I am just giving my experience. I have come to learn that it really all depends on who your Regional is. My team lead is fantastic, but when my regional quit a year ago and the new one took over, it has been hell. She is rude, mean, and harrassing. And I'm not the only one who has problems with her, as I have learned emailing with others on this forum who are in my region. If you have a good regional manager, everything may be just fine. Like I said, it seems like all the MTSOs suck for the most part, Transcend just sucks the least. :)

Take the job - Mollie

I would advise you to take the job with Transcend. You will be immediately eligible for their insurance and will continue to do the same work you are doing now. Transcend took over my hospital and I delayed goint with them. Now, I have to pay my own insurance for three months. So far, they have been great. I do expect it to change in the
future when we transition to VR.

Transcend Benefits For MDI Employees
Jan 04, 2010

Has anyone from MDI who has applied for benefits know when we will know if we were approved for our benefits, and when our coverage will begin and will get insurance cards? Has anyone at Transcend who has their benefits had the experience of being turned down and have to wait that 12-month waiting period? The documents we filled out for benefits were pretty simple.  They did not require a lot of personal information. Anyone's experience with the Transcent benefits would be appr ...

Former Deventure/now Transcend Employees

I just read a few posts below about someone "getting the shaft."  I too was a former Deventure employee and ended up at Transcend through the merge and worked for Deventure for 3 years.   I  have always been curious as to if any of the other former Deventure employees were "happy" with Transcend.  Obviously, my experience after the merge was not a pleasant one and according to at least one other post  'gettiing the shaft" - I am not the only one.  I was tr ...

Transcend Employees...entering Time In TimeSaver
Feb 07, 2012

I need help and need to know how you all enter your time in TimeSaver.  I was told to only enter the time you are actually typing or editing and do not enter the time you are researching or reading work emails, etc., only when your "hands are on the keyboard".  So, this obviously won't equal to 8 hours a day just by entering this time, so how do they figure in that we are full-time employees this way?   If I only enter 5 or 6 hours a day instead of 8 then they can ...

Does This Company Ever Leave Their Employees Alone

Enough with the emails. I wake up to 10+ emails every day and then get numerous more throughout the day.  Raise your accuracy, raise your line counts, lower your MUP, you were 1 hour short of 40 hours, DON'T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN! Sorry, I'm not sending your contested error through, it stands! Ohh and then the phone calls... blah blah blahhhhhhhhh OMG! I just want to work. Why won't you leave me alone?!  ...

Update On Turning In Company Designating Employees As ICs.LM
Apr 30, 2010

I'll say one thing - no wonder the MT industry is upside down.  For crying out loud, IRS referred me to DOL.  DOL referred me back to IRS.  When I persisted in wanting an answer from the DOL, I was told she would "have to talk to her supervisor to see if it was worth pursuing this issue."  I've not heard back.  I guess if I were a bigwig politician, I might actually get some attention to this matter.  It just amazes me that nobody seems to want to be respo ...

Are There Any Companies Left That Still Provide A Company Computer For Employees? Sm

I'm just talking about employees here, not ICs.  It amazes me that as a company employee, we would not be provided the most important tool we need to work with all set up to company specs, loaded with company s/w.  If we worked on site, would we be expected to bring in our own computers?  I don't think so. I did not blame the company I worked for for selling out to Transcend as I figured they were told the same thing we were told, which was that nothing would change and their transcriptionists would be treated fairly.  I think when things do change you can't blame your old company for that since they are probably surprised by it all just like you are. ...

Another Option For Transitioning From MT
Mar 24, 2010

Transcribing the dictation of various physician assistants made me wonder what was involved in becoming a PA, so I looked into the PA programs in my state.  I have a BA and already have all the science prereqs, so I decided to apply.  I'm retiring from my full-time job (not medical related) in April and wondered what I would do with myself with just my part-time MT job to keep me busy.  Now I know.  I start in the PA program with the summer session.  If you have a ...

Transitioning To A New Career

Anybody else switching careers right now?  I have started a training course for a new career and it is EXTREMELY difficult to continue with MT.  I just dread sitting at the computer, its like 8 hours of torture.  I went through this before when I changed careers to MT.  I cried everyday until I could leave my previous job.  I am not crying everyday now, not yet anyway.  Maybe its grief, leaving a job that I once loved, letting go, moving on.  I am considering c ...

Transitioning MTs - REVISED.
Jul 10, 2012

I'd like to suggest a forum devoted specifically to options for MTs looking to get out of transcription. Not for discussions of how bad it's gotten, etc., but a place where MTs can share (and easily find) concrete ideas (links, newspaper articles, etc.) for jobs or educational programs that might be a good fit for a new career for a medical transcriptionist. Or perhaps a board, a lot like a job board, with alphabetized listings or categorized by type of work. From what I can see, MTs a ...

Thinking Of Transitioning

I have been working as an MT since 2003.  I started out in-house, transitioned to home-based within my first year and was outsourced after 3 years.  The 1st few years were not bad working production but since then things have steadily gone downhill. MT Transitioning Out And Nervous

I haven't posted much but am still employed as an MT at a place I actually llike, and even though my check only helps pay the bills, even that hasn't been enough lately.  So, starting in September, I got a job at my son's school district's cafeteria service.  It's only minimum, but I at least know, that minimum is what I will make and will have summer off as well as any days the district is off, plus will be elibigle for a raise (which I haven't seen ever) ...

To All The "happy" Transcend Employees
Dec 20, 2010

Love reading all the posts on Transcend. For those of you that are happy there, good for you. You must be one of the ones that either "cheat/cherry pick" or your TL/ROM is your best buddy.  The region I work in is notorious for people cherry picking and when TL and ROM are told about this, nothing happens.. No wonder some people are happy. If I could pick and choose what jobs and what doctors  I wanted to do I'd probably be a lot happier too. It either forces you to "do the same" ...

Transitioning To Medical Editor - Fee??

Jan 15, 2014

Will be transitioning to ChartNet in a few weeks and am looking for input. It is really a speech WRECK program as so many people have posted?
