The wonderful world of...editing?? - discouraged MT

I'm new to the wonderful field of editing*sarcasm* after 20 years of transcribing and I just don't get it.  The pay is poop, but "It's faster" they say, "because you aren't typing it" and "you will make more than you did transcribing", but from my few months of experience with it (yes only a few months), I type just as fast as I edit or faster, which makes the pay way more than poop.  Is there a secret or a trick to this that as I newbie I'm missing?  Or is it just I need more practice?  Somebody please help!!
