Glad you didn't take offense. Sorry you got accused of "not listening." I think if people know of your situation, they wouldn't be so quick to assume anything and then get offended.
There is no shame in sharing with those around you that you are hard of hearing. It could certainly eliminate misunderstandings. Good luck to you.
