I have seen ads as recent as last year for MTs who have C phones.
I was also diagnosed with hearing loss after 10 years of service on-site. It was a required exam at the hospital for employees. The nurse kept re-testing me because she thought she was getting false results. She was not. I was in my late 20s. She told me I should definitely consult a physician and have it tested, and she also told me to turn the sound down on the headphones I was using because it was obviously causing my hearing deficit.
I am now 30 years into the jobs and in my late 40s and never had it looked into, but I definitely have a hearing deficit and I'm pretty sure is work-related. I cannot hear a phone ringing in another room, but other family members can. I cannot always hear what other people are saying, so I either nod or actually try and read their lips.
This OP might be on to something. No one is pulling anyone's leg about C-phones either; yes they are definitely still in use.
