Technical questions - Embarrassed

Posted: Sep 23rd, 2017 - 6:34 am

So embarrassed to have to ask these questions, but here goes.

First off, I have 25+ years' experience as an MT and have worked for all the big ones.  I always had employee status and worked on company-supplied equipment which I returned when I left.  The footpedals supplied (in recent years) were all Infinity products but were different models and system-specific (i.e., not interchangeable).  These company-supplied footpedals were never functional when I tried to test for other employers or MTTest.

Fast foward to today.  Just laid off and am looking online now for general transcription work just as supplemental income.  I don't own any MT hardware (other than my 'puter, of course!).  I'll need to do testing, for which I'll need a footpedal (using keyboard controls just isn't practical).  It looks to me like mp3 files, Express Scribe, etc., are common means of accessing voice files for testing as well as for the job itself.

I see Infinity footpedals on Amazon, but are these generic?  How do I know which model I would need?  Does it matter?  I have a drawer full of headsets, but is there other equipment that would be helpful?

Thanks in advance for any responses.
