Pretty much. I am sure there are a few smaller medical facilities around the country that still have transcriptionists that are paid well and have good benefits, but those are niche type jobs and not the norm.
I truly believe medical transcription as I have always known it is dead. I have been at this for 30 years and have never once gotten a raise. In fact, I have had more and more duties added to my job and more stringent QA requirements and turnaround times than ever before and all I have gotten is a CUT in pay.
My 2 teenagers actually make more money than I do, so I am thinking of just doing a grocery store job for the last 10 years or so I have left until retirement or my kids finish college, whichever comes first.
Luckily, my husband has a good job and my income is just for the extras.
