Big 3 and the future - Backwoods Typist

Posted: Oct 9th, 2016 - 3:05 am In Reply to: The big 3 will not live forever.... - mt

Even when the big 3 have been slain, their heads removed and remains long burned, our profession will not be the same. It has gone too far to be restored to its former glory, too damaged to be put back together.

Not only have doctors and healthcare systems gotten a taste of not having a trascription department, they have found other means of getting their work done. Scribes being one, and direct insertion the other. Some scribes are medical students or regular Joes that have no medical education (not knockin, just sayin). No longer are our comprehension of the English language, our knowledge of doctor normals, our strict quality standards, our knowledge of anatomy and terminology....it means nothing. It means the world to us, but not anybody else. They are too busy laughing all the way to the bank, joking to each other about how they screwed us over. Add to this the fact that nobody wants to pay a premium price for premium work, and you have the start of a molotov cocktail.

As for why there has not been more press on this...a majority of the population except that directly affected by it are oblivious to what is going on or they do not care. In the current day, we have far too much going on to really pay attention. Kids have their after school activities, you have the luncheon on Wednesday, cook dinner after work, help kids with homework, etc. etc. Who has time? Sure, we know we SHOULD..but we dont. Maybe some op-end in a newspaper or major news story concerning same would start the ball rolling, but who knows? We need help no doubt, but these companies clearly take advantage of the fact that we are so spread out and alienated from each other, i.e. we cant band together to raise a stink.

Some hospitals, bless the few that are still out there, still realize the important skill set that we have to offer and want it, are willing to pay well for it, most likely after taking it back from a lousy service like N or MM. These MTSOs will get too big for their britches, will write a check their a## cant cash and we will get a chance with smug satisfaction to watch as the succubus wriggles and writhes in a painful slow death. Does not matter if you call it Karma or God, when you do bad things it comes back 10x over. They are already walking a fine line with their recent lay-off of all the CA folks and I am sure there will be legal fall-out of that nuclear disaster. Does not matter the name, just hope they have their sh** together. Soon it will be time to pay their dues.

In the meantime, we have to realize that trying to stay with these services in a lost cause. They do not hide the fact that they are openly sending jobs overseas. They also set unreasonable goals. You did not fail, they did. They sang their siren's song to get your job, and now they cant deliver what was promised. You guys are wonderful...and deserve much better.
