Companies contract with X number of MTs to cover X number of accounts... They have to know the periods of time that work comes in will be covered so that jobs won't go out of TAT. There's no way to know when some doctor won't decide to catch up on his glut of dictation. If you decide to take the afternoon off, one of two things will happen -- (a) the work will go late or (b) the MTs also assigned to that account will get stuck with the brunt of the overload.
Personally, I don't think it's an unreasonable request to know what hours you'll be working.
