Contract law is what it is. If a church board wanted to contract with someone to fill in for their minister while on vacation, the contract can certainly specify that the individual is to perform this work "each Sunday, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 12 p.m." The board could further specify that sermons are expected to conform to the doctrine of the assembly, and are to be not less than 15 minutes nor more than 30 minutes in duration.

Sorry, but you really are quite mistaken about this. What you DO have a right to do is to negotiate terms prior to contracting with a company, and then to accept or reject the terms of the contract as negotiated. The contracting company has every right to include terms in the contract that specify how and when the work is to be done, as well as what quality expectations must be met, what reference resources are to be used (or not used), what standards (such as BOS) will be applied, etc.

That's just how it is.
