A medical clinic decides to expand its facility by adding a wing. For security reasons, the clinic does not want construction workers coming and going in the facility outside of the normal working hours. As such, one of the terms in the contract specifies that the work is to be performed when the clinic is open, e.g. "between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday."

The contract also specifies that the work is to be completed in specific stages, which are to be finished on certain dates, and which are to meet certain criteria for acceptance by the clinic's management. Such criteria might, for instance, include the successful passage of inspections by the local building inspection authority.

Another term might specify, for instance, that the concrete being poured must be comprised of a specific mixture of sand, cement, stone, etc, and meet a specific "slump" test.

All of these represent terms that specify when work will be done, how it will be done, what criteria must be met for acceptance of the work, etc.

Such terms are found in contracts all the time.

On the service side, there are similar terms. For instance, the clinic contracts with someone to train employees regarding HIPAA. The terms can specify when such training will be conducted, how the training will be conducted (for instance, with the use of mixed media to include audiovisual materials), how many employees will be trained, and what criteria will be used to prove the effectiveness of the training (for instance, pre- and post-training testing).
