Sharp-Purser test? - CuriousMT

Posted: Apr 15, 2014

Typing a PT report and came across this:  "NEUROLOGICAL SCREEN:  Sharp purser test is negative."

I can't find definitively whether this is named for 2 people, or one with a hyphenated name... so, "Sharp-Purser test" or if it's referring to sharp as in, a needle is sharp, and then Purser as a last name, or finally, if it's "sharp purser" as in, sharp movements, and somehow purser referring to something I'm not aware of.

Thanks!

I found it with one easy Google search - sm

It's Sharp-Purser test.

Google is a wonderful resource.

Sharps, not Sharp!!

Anon, can you expand? - CuriousMT

anon- Can you explain why you think it should be "Sharps" instead of "Sharp?"

I could not find anything to support that, but I don't want to discount your response as you might have information I'm unaware of.

Thanks!

Wow! Why didn't I think of that? - CurioustMT

Thanks for the link, but:
1. I said in my original post that I researched. Where did you think I did that research? Your passive-aggressive rudeness is noted.
2. Your article still doesn't explain what I was looking for... is this named after someone, an individual, multiple individuals? I like to know more than just the correct spelling and capitalization. Hence my detailed question.

You're right - xx

Instead of just pointing you in the right direction to enable further, properly directed research on your part, the responder absolutely should have just dropped everything to provide you with the detailed explanation you demanded so you didn't have to do any more work yourself.

You poor baby. It's just awful when you have to put out some effort to find an answer yourself when some stranger owes it to you to do your work for you.

There was nothing passive-aggressive or rude in the post to which you responded. I thought the poster was sincere when she said google is a wonderful resource.

From what I can find, the test is named for the two physicians noted above. I found this by googling, reading some of the links, and taking it from there. Sometimes the answers are not immediately evident, so you have to dig a little. Alternatively, you can always criticize others for not doing your digging for you. It's not reasonable to scold people who are trying to assist you.

I did the research. I searched several pages of each search string I used, and I didn't come up with anything. That's why I came here, because I thought someone who might have typed this many times and had already done the research would be able to answer.

What I wasn't looking for is a bunch of smart aleck responses from others who also didn't know and had to go searching.

I didn't say, "Hey everyone. I have a term that I bet none of you know, why don't you drop everything and spend hours researching, and when you do find it, give me the response and criticism with it."

Why must we tear each other down? The point of THIS forum is to post words that we don't know, terms we've been unable to find, etc. Sure, if you want to waste your time and answer things you don't know, go right ahead, but really it just slows us down and puts a bunch of incorrect answers out into the ether rather than helping the original person and others who come along after.

For instance, if I search for those terms 3 weeks from now, this thread will most likely pop up. But instead of getting a simple answer that comes from a reputable source, they're going to find us bickering at one another, plus one random person who said it should be "Sharps" not "Sharp" (though all of my research and the other answers here say otherwise). So, then the person looking for the answer might now have to do more research to find out who's right.

I took the original answer in a tone that sounded like they were being sarcastic. If they weren't, I apologize. But this forum is filled with people saying things like, "you could have found that on Google" instead of helping someone who clearly came here needing help. This isn't instantaneous. So clearly those asking for help aren't looking for instant gratification. I specifically asked for the details I was unable to find on my own.
Something to consider... - sm

It's possible that the first poster who responded to you didn't even open your message, and was just confirming.

Regardless, I researched and provided you with the answer to your question. A thank you would have been nice. It also would have taken less time.
