can someone please explain to me how to create - a PC shorthand macro?

I have looked for step-by-step instructions online and cannot find them... any help would be appreciated. If I want ALT G to delete word left, how would I do that? I see the "record" button when I go to "add new item to dictionary" screen, but I can't figure out how to get ALT G in there. Thank you!

You can assign a shortcut key (shortcut key: A function key or key combination, such as F5 or CTRL+A, that you use to carry out a menu command. In contrast, an access key is a key combination, such as ALT+F, that moves the focus to a menu, command, or control.) to a command, macro (macro: An action or a set of actions that you can use to automate tasks. Macros are recorded in the Visual Basic for Applications programming language.), font, AutoText (AutoText: A storage location for text or graphics you want to use again, such as a standard contract clause or a long distribution list. Each selection of text or graphics is recorded as an AutoText entry and is assigned a unique name.) entry, style, or commonly used symbol.

On the Tools menu, click Customize.
Click Keyboard.
In the Save changes in box, click the current document name or template (template: A file or files that contain the structure and tools for shaping such elements as the style and page layout of finished files. For example, Word templates can shape a single document, and FrontPage templates can shape an entire Web site.) in which you want to save the shortcut key changes.
In the Categories box, click the category that contains the command or other item.
In the Commands box, click the name of the command or other item.
Any shortcut keys that are currently assigned appear in the Current keys box.

Do one of the following:
Assign a shortcut key
Begin shortcut key combinations with CTRL, ALT, or a function key.

Click the Press new shortcut key box and press the shortcut key combination you want to assign. For example, press ALT plus the desired key.
Look at Currently assigned to to see if the shortcut key combination is already assigned to a command or other item. If so, select another combination.
Reassigning a key combination means that you can no longer use the combination for its original purpose. For example, pressing CTRL+B changes selected text to bold. If you reassign CTRL+B to a new command or other item, you will not be able to make text bold by pressing CTRL+B unless you restore the shortcut key assignments to their original settings.

Click Assign.
Remove a shortcut key
In the Current keys box, click the shortcut key you want to delete.
Click Remove.
Note If you use a programmable keyboard, the key combination CTRL+ALT+F8 may be reserved for initiating keyboard programming.

Print a list of shortcut keys
On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Macros.
In the Macros in box, click Word commands.
In the Macro name box, click ListCommands.
Click Run.
In the List Commands dialog box, click Current menu and keyboard settings.
Click OK.
On the File menu, click Print.

This is not exactly what you asked for but thought I'd help.....with these macros you can delete 1-4 words at a time, or make it delete more if need more....

I'm pretty sure you can just cut and paste the recorded macros into your shorthand dictionary.

This has been one of the coolest tricks I learned during my 13-month training at Rodeer in Atlanta at the start of my career! Thanks Rodeer! :)

Sorry to be so dense. I am not a new MT, but have no experience making macros. My problem is, where do all the different character keys comes from, for example ({@KEYDOWN Shift}{@KEY Ctrl+Left}.) Idon't know what the bracket or @keydown means. I have tried looking in the SH tutorial, but it really doesn't explain it. I know it must be very easy, but I just have a mental block when it comes to these. I know if I knew how to make them my VR would be much faster. I have even tried cutting and pasting and they still don't work.

I downloaded the free trial of ES on my computer which runs Windows 7. For some reason I CANNOT figure out how to create a playback time, the time when I lift my foot off the play pad and put it back on, and still hear some of what I JUST heard. You know what I mean. If an account has been offshore for almost 1 year and is being transcribed by an offshore MT and qa'd by 2 separate offshore qa and then 1 American qa.......where are they actually saving money? How long does the Q need to pay 4+ (the person who audits them too) to do 1 report before they realize their American MTs could get it done in 1 shot and maybe 2 on occasion? Okay, so if you go below mininum wage, the company has to "pay extra" to bring your paycheck up to minimum wage, because BY LAW they have to pay at least minimum wage. What counts against us and what does not count against us. They are trying to say that a ï»¿ï»¿legitimate blank does not count against us and speakers that are on autopend are not to count against us either. However, what do they mean by a legitimate blank. Why is it that I can only work 28 hours as a part timer, but full time people are able to get OT, no limit. I don't take insurance, don't want it, but there is no darn reason I can't work as many hours as I want also. This is ridiculous. I was working tonight. Just me and someone else on the system on my primary account, like always. The only difference was 67 reports (double the amount) when there is usually around 30 reports every night on the primary account. I worked for 2 hours. why some MTs make it their business what every other MT is doing during their work day. I work directly for a hospital and we are given the capability to look at the jobs that are on the system waiting to be transcribed and we are allowed to assign jobs, change the priority of a job, etc. The reason we are given this capability is because those working in the hospital, nurses, doctors, HIM staff, etc. have our phone numbers and if they need a report they can call us at home.
