Please someone explain - Bewildered

For weeks and weeks there have been NJA.  I sit here  hours and hours checking every 5 minutes.  I was just reprimanded that I have  not met my hours and my PTO will be used.  This asounds me as I am willing to work but not to sit in front of a computer for hours and hours trying to get work only to get my PTO taken away.  I live in NJ and am hoping there is something I can do.  My CCM is great and tries to help but she is after her own behind which I cannot blame her.  If there are NJA, why should I give up my PTO.  Any way to get around this?  I came close to quitting today but held my temper.  Does any one know the ins and outs for NJ?  I DO  have a life out of MQ.  Thanks for any advice!!!!

I thought there were 3 options, to use PTO, take without pay, or make up. When I email support re NJA I always designate on the bottom line if I want PTO or w/o pay (I never make up more than an hour or so). If I want PTO, I have to go into Sched Source and officially request it.

I think they can not pay you, but I don't think they can force you to use PTO without your agreeing to it.

I have always been told if you have NJA, first you can make up the lines, or use your PTO, or if no PTO, THEN you have to opt for no pay for those hours.

For FT people with benefits you need 40 no matter what - NE MT

If you are FT with health insurance and other benefits you need 40 per week no matter what to keep your benefits and if that means using PTO when there is NJA then so be it. I never opt to take the day without pay, I try to make up as much as I can and then as a last resort use PTO, but less than 40 for a couple weeks and MQ will take away benefits. I actually had a friend go on FMLA just to keep her insurance because of all the NJA and she was out of PTO. You know, when you work a shift on Saturday and there is no work you are out of luck, no time to make it up!

I was informed by my CCM yesterday that you do not have to take PTO if there is NJA, it is not our fault there is no work!

Did you send an email stating you were NJA or did you sit all day, logging on and off for work? You have to watch that. If you didn't send emails, I think that is where they can get you. My CCM has been known to take PTO automatically if hours didn't match what you were supposed to work...but those people didn't send NJA tickets. The catch-22 is that once you send in your email, you are released from your shift and have to work another time to make it up (or PTO or not paid). I haven't always sent in emails, cuz I didn't want to be fully released for the day. I knew later on work would come in. But I have paid for it later at the end of the pay period. They are sneaky. I am not saying that is exactly why, but I can tell you from experience, that is what has happened to me.

Taking away PTO you have already earned, is WRONG. Reprimanding you for not meeting your hours, when they have not managed to give you any work to do, is WRONG!

The time is 'WAY overdue to get this company's business practices (and most certainly their books!) scrutinized to the fullest. It's time to out these guys to anyone and everyone who will listen, until they're fully investigated, like they deserve to be.

NJA for WEEKS???? Why have you not changed your schedule and worked with your CCM to see where the work is (what hours are the busiest) on the accounts that you work on?? What Tier are you??? If you are a Tier 1, you need to work on moving up so that there is more work available to you as the more you can do the more work there is for you. If you cannot possibly change your schedule to meet where the work is, then you should be rethinking working for Medquist. I have changed my hours and worked with my CCM and am a Tier 3 and hardly ever run out of work Except on Holidays (like Monday) which is fine with me, as then I just take the third option of the rest of the day without pay then. I wish you luck, but if I had to sit for WEEKS without work, I would already be looking for a new job.

If an account has been offshore for almost 1 year and is being transcribed by an offshore MT and qa'd by 2 separate offshore qa and then 1 American qa.......where are they actually saving money? How long does the Q need to pay 4+ (the person who audits them too) to do 1 report before they realize their American MTs could get it done in 1 shot and maybe 2 on occasion? TATs are out because of this and there are so many NJA issues spoken of on this site too, WAKE UP Q! ...

in normal human speak?  I consider myself a very fast learner.  Normally I have to only be shown something once to get it, but that????  I watched it twice and I still have NO IDEA what she was talking about with check marks and preferred headings and HUH?!?!?!?!?!? I start work in 1/2 hour.  My first shift on 6.1 (assuming I have work) and I have no idea what is going on!  Why do they have to keep messing with everything? ...

Okay, so if you go below mininum wage, the company has to "pay extra" to bring your paycheck up to minimum wage, because BY LAW they have to pay at least minimum wage. But somehow, when they decide to ONLY pay us for "active typing" "hands on keyboard" and NOT for our research (verification of correct terminology, spelling of names, etc) and our documenation (of errors, questions, blanks)...aren't we entitled to have THAT time spent "made up to us," to bring us up to a FAIR PAYCHECK? What counts against us and what does not count against us.  They are trying to say that a legitimate blank does not count against us and speakers that are on autopend are not to count against us either.  However, what do they mean by a legitimate blank.  I blank if I can't understand/hear what is being said or a discrepancy in the dictation.  However, my account is on a 2 blank restriction...each dictation 2 more or blanks has to be pended for blanks.&n ...

Why is it that I can only work 28 hours as a part timer, but full time people are able to get OT, no limit.  I don't take insurance, don't want it, but there is no darn reason I can't work as many hours as I want also.  This is ridiculous.  Why would the company pay OT to someone when I have 12 hours I could be working at regular pay.  What the??? ...

I was working tonight.  Just me and someone else on the system on my primary account, like always.  The only difference was 67 reports (double the amount) when there is usually around 30 reports every night on the primary account.  I worked for 2 hours.  Got off for an hour and came back on and NOTHING.  I did not get my primary.  How strange?  I go back and look at my primary account and it shows 12 reports are left out of 67 reports in one hour ago.  I ...

I'm exceedingly confused.  What I understood by reading the sites, kindly posted by our moderator and others, we will be contacted.  By whom?  Is MQ a participant because they are in one of the states listed? why some MTs make it their business what every other MT is doing during their work day.  I work directly for a hospital and we are given the capability to look at the jobs that are on the system waiting to be transcribed and we are allowed to assign jobs, change the priority of a job, etc.  The reason we are given this capability is because those working in the hospital, nurses, doctors, HIM staff, etc. have our phone numbers and if they need a report they can call us at home.
