I'm curious as to why Nuance would do this? Why would they give QC a bonus and make ours so darn hard to acheive? Why would they allow QC to continue to make up bogus errors to only make us look really bad?  I think I know. If they show their clients that the US based MTs have worse qulaity than the India based MTs and are more expensive, they could switch over 100% of their client base to India and get rid of all of us and the expense of having us like future Obamacare insurance, P/R taxes, WC ins, etc.  Our TSMs don't give a damn because they can still manage India.  Just my intuition on this. What they are doing appears to be so dumb business-wise, it's hard to believe they are still in business by making such dumb decisions. But they are not dumb, not at all. It is all very deliberate.  Stacking the cards against US based employees to lower their overhead.

I do think there is something up for sure, but if they wanted to get rid of the US MTs why are they placing ads to hire US MTs and QC?? They would just have adds for India or the Phillipines right?

Their trying to get VR to "learn" to a greater degree which means a more consistent editing process, explaining the 100% QA/QC system they've put in place. Once we are all editing the same way, making every word count, VR will learn.

Train the equipment and keep a full staff with a lot of MTs quitting, have to hire to fill the void. Or,possibly to show that "see we tried and tried to hire but they all quit or aren't any good". Remember, there is always a reason for their actions. They don't do things haphazardly.

as a whole. No way, no how. I absolutely have to give them credit for doing work that isn't in their native language (something I could *never* do) but there are nuances (pardon the pun) to American English that I just don't think most ESL MTs are ever going to get. Kind of like that "corrected" QC report someone recently posted on the board - pt had gone to beach and was playing with a pail (or something like that) - "pail" was changed to "pale" by QC.

Nuance says they have an MT quality bonus because a experienced and good MT who is looking at Nuance as an employer would think "yippee."

They have the QC bonus to ensure that Nuance will never have to pay another MT bonus - fewer QCs, I'm sure.

Best solution would be to drop all bonuses, quick the unbelievable nitpicking, and get back to the business at hand which *should* be providing accurate reports in a timely manner. Worrying about whether or not a comma is appropriate (which I think is subjective a lot of the time) is a waste of everyone's time - MT, QC, and client.

I couldn't figure out why they would make such a stupid business decision (bad morale, QA over-editing, etc.) but it all makes sense now. Also why they are training/using offshore QA.

Just saw this posted, you have to look at Laura Mann Bryan's post and expand it to see the comments. It is not verified, and passed on anonymously, but it would explain one possible reason for what is going on.

How in the heck are you supposed to make any money doing SR?  Is it possible?  I make good money as a transcriptionist and have avoided SR up to now.  Now my company is transitioning over and I'm contemplating running for the door. Thank you for my Q2 bonus, the first ever for me. However, I really could have used the money during the last 3 months. If divided up over those 3 months, I would not have had to borrow money for food. Please reconsider this punitive bonus plan you have. The money would be better served in my paychecks. Honest to Pete, this woman has no clue about pronunciation.  A couple of reports ago she's reading a radiology report and says very clearly "primitive destruction" and then goes on to spell it "permeative."  Those are two very different words and to me have very different pronunciations.
