again with the Walmart card. Some people hate Walmart and won't shop there. Don't they know this? Oh well, at least I can give it away to a homeless or battered women's shelter and put it to good use.

There truly is somewhat of a point to be made. Would a Wallstreet worker get the same card for 25 dollars to Walmart from their employeer? Plus you get minimum wages as it is and make these companies what they are, so you get a token to a store that profits from our government when we sit here seeing our jobs gone. Yes, a point that someone with nothing would appreciate it, but look at what we do also. We are just trying to live comfortable and be gainfully employed. Nothing gainful any more about being an MT for a service. Wonder what bonus the services from India give...if anything...probably to Walmart too.

The original poster is NOT a Wall Street worker so making that comparison is irrelevant. This is not a socialist country. I do not even pretend to work in a stressful and crazy world as most business people. And, if you think that you have stress as an MT, you might want to go get a job in the real world and check it out.

Your post is what is irrelevant (and ridiculous). Anyone who has worked in the ''real world'' (as have most career MTs) should be bright enough to know that few jobs compare with the demands of production MT. You are actually comparing the stress level of the worker who gets paid, not to ''coast'' or take a restroom break or enjoy a chat with a co-worker, but strictly for what she is capable of producing within a rigid timeframe--not one penny more or one penny less--and who must possess (and demonstrate on audit) a broad technical knowledge and a specialized vocabulary on a par with physicians? Seriously?! You need to get out more.

Wallmart has caused many small businesses to have to close up shop. I know..capitalism and all that.. I don't have to participate in it and she doesn't want to either. Shop local small businesses this Christmas. Good for our economy.

Many people (myself included) do not shop at Walmart for moral reasons. Rent the DVD called THE HIGH COST OF LOW PRICES. It will open your eyes. Every dollar you save shopping there is at the expense of an exploited worker. I say, say NO to Walmart!

We haven't gotten crap. Last year we got an e-mail saying happy holidays and that was it.

Be appreciative that they even thought of you. Being ungrateful is never a good thing.

It is not about being UNGRATEFUL. It is about being aware of the oppression of the American worker. Just as American MTs rightfully do not want to be oppressed, neither do Walmart workers. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I will not take my ten bucks of savings off another worker's back.

I am NOT a Walmart shopper, rather one of the many who are sick and tired of of this company making huge profits by hocking cheap junk from China, treating their employees poorly (and directing them on how to receive taxpayer-assited programs because their wages are so low), and shutting down Main Street USA because they can't compete with the giant.

It's a tough situation, however, when you receive a gift that has obviously been purchased at Walmart. Just try to realize that you were thought of, appreciate that, and then either return the gift and purchase something from a small business or donate an un-returnable gift.

To those of you who are tempted to jump on her for being ungrateful... don't. She's just trying to stand by what she thinks is right.

Thank you for your voice of reason. Walmart is one of the great evils of our time. Many small businesses have been bankrupted by it and people who support it should do some research about it. It is the commercial equivalent of MedQuist.

Not to go off on a tangent that should belong on the Politics Board, but in a time where "corporations are people too," individually and as a society, we need to decide if these "people" are decent enough to associate with. Walmart does NOT pass the test.

Again, it puts us in a difficult situation when we are on the receiving end of generosity during the holidays. We're not ungrateful... just in a difficult spot.

Exactly. And I hate that DSG continues year after year after year to support stinking Walmart on the backs of their MTs. For those of you who don't get it, or don't think I'm grateful enough, the card was donated this morning to a family whose house burned down last night. Wouldn't even considering walking into a Walmart let alone supporting their lousy business practices and treatment of their employees.

When I receive a gift from Walmart, I have no problem going into the store and returning it to get cash. My first goal is to get back the money that has been given to Walmart so I can spend it at a small business.

This year, if I can't get money back and can only get store credit, or if I receive a gift card that I can't exchange for cash (I'm pretty sure that's their policy), I am going to ask to speak to management, explain that I'm looking to donate a gift card to someone less fortunate, and then ask them to direct me to one of their lowest paid employees (preferably one Walmart has directed on how to receive gov. assistance). I'm sure I'll just be asked to leave the store, but IDC. I'll just donate it elsewhere then.

Anyway, as to being grateful or ungrateful this holiday season, I'm grateful that there are other people out there who get this. Usually when I try telling people my stance on Walmart and reasons for such, I get a "huh?"... including from DH. The last time he came home with new work boots in a Walmart bag, I just explained to him that I don't fool around with Walmart shoppers. He's been Walmart free since : ) Also, I try to be understanding of the fact that there are people out there (especially Walmart employees) who financially have no choice but to shop there (and this is very much a result of Walmart's business practices). It's sad that, in this situation at least, having a conscience has become a privilege dependent on income level.

I understand the moral issues with Walmart, but I continue to shop there b/c I must be pragmatic. I have been out of work for awhile and, quite honestly, I cannot afford the independent stores in our area. Some of their items are double the cost as they are at Wally.

In an economic climate so distressed as ours, I agree with the other posters who balk at the idea of not being grateful for a gift of ANYTHING this Christmas. So, if someone's ideals keep them from using that card, you SHOULD pass it on. There are plenty that would appreciate that.

I think it is wonderful that our company, in these tough economic times, chose to remember us in this way! So many get NOTHING!

You should just have gracefully accepted their gift, appreciated their generosity, and then regifted the card as you see fit.

You could let them know your feelings in an email or something.

Now many NONE of us will get anything next year. Thanks a lot!

My neighbor's house was broken into on Monday (12/19) and they were cleaned out, as well as all of their gifts. The bonusgift card I received, (however small) I gave to them. I am sure they would be happy with your card, as well.

Here's an idea - take your gift card, put it in an envelope and send it to a Ronald McDonald House to be used by the family of a seriously ill child. I'm sure they would be glad to have the Wal-Mart card.

Funny you said that...I have 2 close friends that work at Wlamart (1 just retired). They did VERY well. The were (are) making about double minimum wage, have hospitalization, PTO, retirement plan and a lifetime discount to any Walmart in the world, in addition to other benefits. They have job gripes like everyone else, but did very, very well for themselves. Walmart has an educational program and promotes their managers from within. Guess it is all what you personally do with what is offered you.

It certainly isn't hurting Wal-Mart if you don't use that gift card. Wal-Mart and any other company issuing gift cards probably hopes that the recipients will forget to use them or will only use part of it. They will make double money on it.

Thank you for my Q2 bonus, the first ever for me. However, I really could have used the money during the last 3 months. If divided up over those 3 months, I would not have had to borrow money for food. Please reconsider this punitive bonus plan you have. The money would be better served in my paychecks. Plus, all taxes deducted out of this bonus check is almost 50%. If that money would have been on a regular paycheck, the deduction would be more like 30%. This is punitive to MLSs in more wa ...

We used to get the monthly production bonus as a separate check on the 25th. I didn't get a separate check for this although I should have qualified. Paltry as it is, every little bit helps. I do see an "incentive bonus" on my regular paystub, but I'm not sure if this is from some past incentive I have since forgotten about or if they are now just putting the regular monthly bonus on one statement along with our regular pay. Have you found that it's getting less and less for the VERY SAME AMOUNT OF LINES? I got a smaller bonus (piddly as it is) this month for MORE lines than I produced a few months ago and got a larger bonus for. I know the bonus is pretty much based on some kind of whim and/or some computations that require a master's degree in mathematics to figure out, but it would sure be nice if they could be consistent. Our accounts are so backed up due to yesterday's system fiasco (over 3500 minutes on backlogs) that CCM just sent out an email that we are getting $10 extra per hour for hours over our scheduled shift. This is over and above OT pay for those extra hours. This is starting today at 3 pm eastern and ending tomorrow at 3 pm eastern. TransTech in TX is offering a $500 sign on bonus for experienced oncology MTs & MEs. Perhaps the tables are turning. I'm already working as one, but am not the least bit happy with the account as the reports are only a few seconds long and the busy work between each one takes longer than the transcription - thus you are not paid for half the work you do. MTSOs need to recognize this and that there is competition, i.e. TransTech! Do I hear $600!? ...

Be interesting to see if I qualify for this. I got one last time, but it seems like every one of my reports is being audited and they are marking off for such stupid stuff and 0.25 adds up after awhile. Everything from invalid blanks to "failure to flag" Something has definitely changed over the last few weeks, never has it been like this before. I have always had 99 to 100% but I can't seem to even get to 98% now what with all their mark offs. So stupid. ...

I got one last quarter which was a huge shock and I believe if I get one this time, it will probably be the last one I ever see as FIESA is now deducting for everything - semicolon instead of colon - mom not being capitalized - an S not at the end of a word - things that really in no way change the meaning of the sentence but enough to bring my percentage down as low as they have ever been in 15 years of transcribing. I am trying to ignore, but it gets more difficult every day. ...
