Relatively speaking, Nuance isn't so bad. - Hate Fiesa nitpicking but

Posted: Jul 22, 2013

Compared to the old Medquist (M Modal), Nuance is a piece of cake.

Wish there were more options like the good old days but looks like Nuance and M Modal is buying all the MT companies and ensuring there is no competion to allow MTs to make more money.

nope can't buy that - Happy with M Modal

[ In Reply To ..]
I have read toooo much on here to buy that.

Haha. Meager Modal wins hands down over - Nasty Nuance (sad)

[ In Reply To ..]
Worked for both. Quit Nuance. As poor as I am working for MM, at least now my mental health is back to some semblance of a working order!

It is sad. Who would have thought anyone could be - worse than MModal but Nuance is. NM

[ In Reply To ..]
xx

I completely disagree. I work for both and - MModal miles and miles better

[ In Reply To ..]
Nuance was better about a year ago and then things began to change and now it is no contest. As bad as MModal is, Nuance is worse.

How so? - I might go back to MQ/MModal

[ In Reply To ..]
What a lame name they have chosen though.

I worked for old MQ and they threw me in a pool so I left and ended up at Nuance where I specialize in 2 accounts, no pools of work.

How is MM handling the work nowadays?

For me, I much prefer MModal - all boils down to assignment

[ In Reply To ..]
I get better PTO working full time at MModal than Nuance. I never run out of work (I work evenings). My supervisor is beyond fantastic. She answers every e-mail, she approves PTO almost instantly.

Working 4th of July at Nuance 8 hour shift I earned $15 extra holiday pay. Working my 8 hour shift at MModal on 4th of July I earned $45 extra holiday pay.

Also, the QA at MModal is not the complete clusterfluff that it is at Nuance. They don't pay their QA people to create errors.

I work for South region. I don't know if you can request what region to work for when applying or not, but in my case MModal is the clear winner between the two.

IMO the MM software is lots better (that is, - comparing Fluency to eBTXT)

[ In Reply To ..]
And processes are more streamlined. Just one example - while in a job, ALL recent reports by dictator are right there at your fingertips within the application, not just a few measly samples that might or might not be available like it was when I worked on BTXT/eBTXT, which you would have to leave the application to look at. I could go on, but I don't want to come across as some kind of deluded MM cheerleader or HR spy!
In addition, you don't have to log in and out - to access your secondary work
[ In Reply To ..]
If your main account is out of work, your secondary downloads automatically. Unlike Nuance, where you have to log in and out.

I work in Editscript at Nuance and at first when training on Fluency at MModal I preferred Editscript, not so after a few months. I think Fluency is easier to work in and my line count is about 100 lph higher in Fluency.
Now it's getting interesting!! - I might go back too
[ In Reply To ..]
I do remember MQ as having good software, even back when I was with them. It sounds as though they have perfected it. My main beef was the fact they threw you into a general work pool with maybe 10 different facilities with 10 different account specs and you never knew from one job to another what company you were working on. Then, you had to look up all the stuff you had to know just to complete one report because it changed on the next one. Is this the same process?
MM: In my experience, work allocation - is pretty sensible with my group(s).
[ In Reply To ..]
@MM, I am in a group encompassing 15 different facilities/clients but they all have nearly identical account specs. If there is no work in my group, I might then get work from one of a few other groups. Maybe I am lucky, but there are only a couple facilities I come across that have "crazy specs" much different than my usual. So, each client each does have their own specifications, but it is nice because you can see the account specs right there within the Fluency software, so no rummaging around hunting for account specs.

I hated that about Nuance. I only typed for 2 hospitals when I was there but, even with just two, the different layers and locations of account specs and having to hunt around, and tab back and forth, and all that just made me crazy.
Ah hah....everything all there - right in front of you?
[ In Reply To ..]
Yep...that sure does sound good. I cannot believe I'm even considering this! I hated MQ and couldn't wait to get out. But...it's been 12 years.
I worked there 10 years ago and HATED it. - Got rehired at MM 6 months ago
[ In Reply To ..]
and it is better than Nuance in every possible way, for me.

It is nothing like MQ was 10 years ago, again, for me.

In my opinion, client specs easier at MModal - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I currently work on 3-5 different accounts per shift. The client profile pops up next to your report for reference.

I actually think the account specs are more uniform at MModal than Nuance. It isn't to the point where all accounts have identical specs, but it seems they are moving closer to that. Nuance seems to have much more extensive and diverse acct specs between accounts and even between dictators. Also, samples are literally 1 keystroke from your fingertips at MModal. Nuance has a big long, time consuming process just to get a sample.

I say all of this in reference to my own personal experience on the accounts I am on. I work in the south region and so cannot speak for anything other than that.
Nuance account specs - make my eyes hurt
[ In Reply To ..]
Web pages with all sorts of different colors, fonts, and text sizes, with no rhyme or reason. It is like someone at the insane asylum took an html course and just let loose.
EXACTLY!! It's frustrating...but - they do only
[ In Reply To ..]
specialize in voice software. Transcription was/is a sideline for Nuance, another avenue to make money. Of course MQ too, but they did start out with transcription at least.

Wow! Who would have ever thought? - MQ better than Nuance

[ In Reply To ..]
I worked for MQ, gosh, about 12 years ago? I worked for them for 10 years. They were then just starting to buy up the little companies and everything was just SO whacked. Like the OP, I wound up in a pool of work from different facilities and it was a nightmare to say the least. I've been with a myriad of companies between MQ and now Nuance since then. MQ has always, always been the WORST. Incredible that now, it's the other way around...but you know? I can believe it. Evidently MQ finally got their act together and Nuance is starting to fall apart, much like MQ did back around 2000.

I did like the platform at MM better, when I came to Transcend--sm - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
they had the same platform so it was nice. Then Nuance changed it to a word based platform which is not as functional. But, I find the speech engine better at Nuance.

I would not leave Nuance for MM though. I left MM after they bought out Spheris and I had absolutely no work, not even a report here or there for 3 weeks. Used all of my PTO so that I could pay my bills during that time. Holiday pay means very little in my estimation because it is such a small percentage of what I have coming in during the year. I do like the account I have now at Nuance and my biggest fear switching companies is ending up on one of the worst accounts. I just tend to ignore FIESA.

It is a crap shoot either way. MModal better for me - Nuance prob better for others

[ In Reply To ..]
Thus the reason I worked for both for a while. I plan to quit Nuance soon. I don't ever run out of work at either place but I can no longer take the QC debacle at Nuance and it is only going to get worse with this new bonus for them to "find" errors. Also, my supervisor is a terror. She is the type who believes in the tearing down, threatening and belittling method.

After 15 years of being an MT, I plan to be out of this biz completely in 2 years. Getting my last child out of school and then I am going back for a Pharmacy Tech certificate. In 2 years all of this will be in my rear view mirror. Anyone who can should seriously have an escape plan in place.

I've got an escape plan...but I just have to - last 3 more years.

[ In Reply To ..]
It's called RETIREMENT. :-)

LOL..thanks for that jerk back into reality! NM - Dreamin of a perfect MTSO

Speaking Of Shorthand
Feb 11, 2012

I have had Shorthand for about a year and have never had a problem with it. Recently I noticed some of the words I have in it type out wrong. Costing me a lot of time to have to go back and fix. Sometimes if I erase and type again, then it will come out correctly. Anyone have a similar problem with Shorthand? Would it have anything to do with my license expiring in about 3 weeks?  ...

Let me tell you what happened to me the other day. I am traveling next week to Houston. I called a hotel there to make reservations. I said my name and then since it is sort of a long one, said let me spell that for you. Well no matter how much spelling I did, breaking it down into slow, 3 letters at a time, the person NEVER got it on the other end. I spelled the last name probably a total of 6 times total. In order to get confirmation through my email, it is my last name and then first and you ...

Speaking Of Being Disrespectful To MTs, How Do You Like This?
Apr 01, 2015

I had a horrible sound quality report from a dictator I'd never done before. He wasn't too bad, but the sound quality was terrible and it was a surgical speciality that is not too common and I've maybe had one other report on that speciality in the last 3 months. I had to leave a BIG bunch of blanks. Hated to do it. Of coure it was many more over what I am allowed, so I turned it in to QA and was looking forward to seeing what the corrections were because that is a good learni ...

Medquist - I Got Fired For Speaking Up

I spoke my mind by sending this to all MQ addresses I could gather.  I got canned for it.  Not worried about it though.  Maybe it will make a difference.  I sure hope so.  Here it is:   I am hoping that this letter will alert any concerned MQ personnel to a potential disaster.  By introduction, I am one of many MQ employees who take pride in their position, in their work, and in their loyalty.  I am one of many MQ MTs who accepted and eagerly learned ne ...
